"Colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression have created and fueled it"

Pfft. If humans even had anything to do with it, it was all for the purpose of taming the world, making it safer and more comfortable, and primarily for the benefit of /women/. Pretty piss-poor "patriarchy".

Mocking Spongebob Meme | "Taming" the world Like people were savages? | image tagged in memes, mocking spongebob | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
That's not colonizer mentality at all @@... And primarily for the benefit of women, my ass. The US still doesn't have a female president. Rich white women were only allowed to vote after ex-male slaves. It might be "piss-poor patriarchy" to you but it's still patriarchy...

I said taming the /world/, not taming people. English isn't that hard a language to understand, is it?

Things like central heating and air conditioning, indoor plumbing, worldwide communication, rapid transit, etc. etc.

Some male ex-slaves were allowed to vote before some white men too. Also, in America, it took nearly 100 years from the time when only wealthy landowners could vote, to the time when all men could vote, and then it only took about 13 years until the first women could vote, in Wyoming in 1869, less than 100 years after America was "born". Don't act like men were /allowed/ to vote (after meeting certain requirements, mind you, they've never actually had it as a right) for multiple /hundreds/ of years before women were given /the right/ to vote.

Ah yes, the whole "civilization" argument that's supposed to justify imperialism. But they also brought disease (leprosy), degradation, and oppression. Except no one needed central heat or air in Hawai'i. Native Hawaiians lived on the islands for 1500 years prior to the illegal occupation of Hawai'i with no help from western man. There were between 500k and a million people there before the colonizers came. Within a hundred years it dropped to 40,000. So there were no altruistic reasons behind "taming the world." For most of them it was about theft and land acquisition, gathering possessions and women were just something else to be owned.

I'm not buying into the theory that the advances western civilization has thrust upon our ancestors, or being tamed as the other memer put it, has really been the best thing to happen to the world. There are indigenous peoples who don't have addiction, don't have mass shootings, don't have people on welfare, or on anti-depressants, don't have people committing suicide like we have, etc. Our society's ills are a by-product of all this "progress" and the earth is literally getting trashed. Meanwhile we're running around like hamsters in a cage trying to make enough money to survive while people like Trump break the laws and milk the system. But hey, at least we have central air.

To those who moan n groan about how "we" should save the world let me ask you this. Have you EVER went out and picked up trash along a river?? Put on a sweater instead of turning up the heat? How about car pooling or saving your trips to the market to just once a week to save fuel and reduce YOUR trash/carbon footprint? Do you even bring your own fk'n bag to the store so you don't require those wasteful plastic bags??? That's what I thought. It's sooooo easy to stand on your soap box, shake your fist, b**ch about the problem and have an unobtainable task goal so you can virtue signal to all your friends but when it requires the least bit of effort on your part you come up short. You'd have to be a fk'n idiot to believe this shit. If lil' Gretta wanted to b**ch at the people who stole her childhood and dreams her ass would have went to China and India. Climate change is just wealth redistribution and the loss of sovereignty. PERIOD!

Well put. As they say "System Change, NOT Climate Change". Total control over you in the name of climate. Greta will not go to China or India, because these people have no voice. They need to sell it to us in the west.
She travels on that carbon-free boat while her crew flies back-and-forth as they're needed. It's all a theatrical performance. I bet she gets helicoptered in 100 miles off coast!

You guess wrong, I never said that, if you scroll up you'll noticed how your own statement got dismantled and now you're trying to attribute that claim to me. No thanks.

BTW, shorelines get eroded all the time, it's not a sign of rising water. Tides come in, tides go out, and chew away at the soft banks. It happens all the time in nature. Even river banks are subjected to this process. Go find some concrete around old docks and see how eroded that is. Mind you, concrete will take allot longer to erode than these sandy banks you're pointing to, but it will erode eventually. Few hundreds of years and its gone.

You might have your Maga blinders on but I see the effects of climate change happening all around me. The coral is dying from being bleached by the rising ocean temperatures. The beach erosion in Hawai'i in particular is happening in unprecedented levels. But hey, you just keep living in your Fox News bubble.
reply
3 ups, 3d,

Are you sure that's not caused by ocean pollution and overgrowth of ocean plants and red tide?
reply
0 ups, 3d
It's caused by a sustained increase in ocean temperatures. Pollutants from runoff, acidification, etc. just make it harder for the coral to bounce back from bleaching.

Well Greta just contradicted herself. During her confrontation with Blaze reporters in Canada she claimed that she was not a political activist. They said that climate change is a political topic. Greta walked off without another word, and her handlers threatened to call the police on them. For what? Proving her wrong? This quote has proven those Blaze reporters correct.

--There's an enormous amount of energy waste and inefficiency that could be wrung out of the economy if we took the simple step of putting a price tag on carbon.
--Clean technologies are improving on a yearly basis and hopefully will become cheaper than coal and oil.
--Ultimately, we may also need to undertake some global cooling measures like scattering reflective particles in the sky. There are people working on that, too.

We can't give up before we've even tried. Returning to the stone age is a losing and, more importantly, impossible proposition.
reply

1. They tried that and they just trade credits and continue to pollute.
2. Clean coal plants in the US literally only put out a little bit of carbon dioxide and water. They are literally the cleanest energy source in the world.
3. They already did this. Scientists admitted to this back when people were calling chemtrails 'conspiracy'. Now they come right out and say they do this. It doesn't work.

The people on the left who are trying to make climate change about social change are severely misguided. Fighting climate change is, and should be, about the survival of humanity. And that is it.

That said... I will gladly join forces with those willing to do something about it, over those who bury their head in the sand.

If Republicans would get on board with fighting climate change, then they could stop the Left from using this as a wedge issue to effect other changes.

Of course you would, all you need is to be stimulated with a little bit of fear and you're going to do everything that is asked of.

We've had this discussion before so I'll keep it short. The countries that greta and globalists are targeting with this movement are responsible for 1/3 of all global human made CO2 emissions. That makes it roughly 1.1% of all CO2 released annually into the atmosphere. So cutting that 1.1% in half by 2030, or all together by 2050, is going to do f**k all in terms of your "fight" against climate change, and it will cost you all your rights, free markets, freedom of movement and much more.

“Cost you all your rights, free markets, freedom of movement and much more.”

Okay, but now you are just fear-mongering in the other direction. Do you not see that? We don’t have to give up freedoms. To have a meaningful impact we just need to impose an economy-wise carbon tax on the order or 2 or 3 cents on the dollar. This is a market-driven solution favored by moderate and conservative economists that will allow individuals and business means to determine how much they want to pollute and therefore how much they want to pay. No banning of any activities necessary.

Yes, we need to get China, India, and others on board, but they won’t move until we in the developed world move first. There is hope because those countries are led by smart people who realize that climate change will have a devastating impact on their populations, too.

I won’t listen to fear-mongers on the left or right when it comes to an issue of our survival, but rather endorse this sensible middle path that can gather a broad base of support.

I do not doubt or deny that climate change is happening. I do deny that we /must/ do all we are told to stop it. While there there may be some truth in the some of the measures suggested, there is a disturbing amount of charlatanry and lies for purposes of making money and gaining political advantage. If cowfarts are a problem for climate change, this bullshit can't be a solution.

You should look into some of the "proposed ideas" from the UN as well as those already drafted. 'Total control of the markets' is what they claim is essential 'to fight climate change'. Also for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision making in the hands of private property owners.

As much as I admire your 'middle path' approach, Greta and/or Extinction Rebelion or entities behind these movements, are not interested in any compromising ideas.

Children and some retarded adults are crying that the planet is on FIRE and are glueing themselves to trains, and you're still going on about economy-wise carbon tax 2-3 cents on a dollar! Lets not kid ourselves, no one will take this seriously. Not now. As far as they're concerned, we've tried carbon tax and its not working. We need to do more! There will be no debates, as there weren't any on gender identity, you'll wake up one day to learn your great leaders decided what is best for you.

How does raising tax revenue change anything? Or like the Carbon Market, just another way to make money, which is basically what the Al Gores and Gretas are about, making profit off pollution.
Taxes are just passed on the consumer, and they'll pay, and that'll be it.
reply
1 up, 3d,
1 reply
It works not mainly by raising revenue but by forcing consumers and business to think about their environmental impact by making decisions about how much carbon tax they want to pay.

What you do with the revenue is up to the government. I’d like to see it put into further climate mitigation measures but that’s not necessary. If you want to use the revenue to fund a border wall be my guest. Maybe that can be our grand left-right bargain on this.
reply

Business will pass the cost on to consumers, who will grumble and then proceed to dutifully pay.

Aside from that is the main problem with the movement - what the "they" will do for "us." Business, goverment - but not individuals - are being forwarded the responsiblity, one they have little incentive otherwise to take significant action on. Lip service, a donation to a charity manned by Gore or some other profiteer, and that's their 10 Hail Marys.

The pressure should not be focused on the producers, but the purchasers who are the ones, after all, whose demand affects supply and thus manufacture. Tax rebates for buying electric cars may seem like a good idea, for example, but that pales to actually walking or taking public transportation instead of driving.
