This just actually put the random thought in my head, "I wonder when they're gonna start accusing /real/ black people of wearing blackface?"

Because I could actually see someone saying that about people like Candace Owens and Thomas Sowell, because they might be considered "black people who aren't allowed to look like black people anymore".

Yet black women can wear wigs? I find this story hard to believe

Do you know how many times I read this story before I could believe it.

This may be a gift to the guy then, he'll sue and obviously will win. I'd go for damages as well, monetary and make the idiots who did this do something stupid, like in Die Hard when Bruce Willis has to stand with the sign saying "I HATE N****RS"

Why do you think some news parody websites have had to shut down? Like Medusa Magazine, which parodied feminism, and shut down when they realized they just couldn't out-crazy /real/ feminism. People on both sides of the political aisle were citing their stories as facts, because nothing seemed too crazy to put past feminism.

One such story, iirc, was about how feminism was advocating for pregnant women to abort any male children. The right naturally got up in arms and cited the article, while real feminists cited it in support of the idea.

Almost, but surely there must be some variation on that law to account for the fact that you shouldn't have to mark an individual story as parody when it's posted on a website that is /devoted/ to parody, like Medusa, or The Onion?

The problem is so much gets circulated w/o citation...

and even if Cited, an Onion Story can go viral on Facebook and Granny Ethel who only knows Facebook, (so she can see grand baby pics,) circulates the story not knowing what the Onion is...

Remember back when 'eating Tide Pods' and 'snorting condoms' were the subjects du jour... it was not uncommon to see such jokes about 'Cotton Candy hidden in your walls" (Insulation) or "Chocolate Syrup in your Car" (Motor Oil) or

the 'add sugar to you Gas Tank to prevent it from Freezing over' and 'charge your iPhone via the Microwave' and other such 'Life hacks'

one of my aunts got caught by one of these ('metal is safe in the microwave') and attempted to share it with my mom/her sister... I assured Mom that no Metal (as a rule) is NOT safe to microwave lest she attempt to do so...

All very good points, the second gen share situation hadn't occurred to me.

The hate crime hoax was the Virginia girl. Sadly, this one is for real. (The bottom text drips with sarcasm, btw.)
