Yep, must suck big time for her to make that current 174K salary stretch. I guess with a raise she might be able to move up from eating dog food to mayo sandwiches, lol

LOL
I admit unless it is Duke's mayonnaise I would rather have to subsist on plain bread sandwiches.

Mayoketchup, actually.
Half and half.

Saw my cousins whipping it up to add to chopped cabbage visiting there when I was a kid. I didn't know it was a major thing till a couple of years ago.

Oh, ArcMis gave me the link for here. I posted a pic near the bottom there of potential housing for poor AOC.

Some people like it. I know a couple of my kids' friends taught them how to make it.

Ok, I will check that out, thanks :)

I haven't had it in ages. But then watching a travel/food program, one time they showed this truck stand that sells this way fab sliced steak with a bunch of fixings, and mayoketchup was used for the fries that went with it, and that's when I found out it was widely used there. Even Goya sells it made, haha!

They've also been using their own home inspired in Belgium or someplace over yonder as well I found out when talking about his on a forum a couple of years ago.

If you saw that steak sandwich, THAT made my stomach gurgle with yearning.
I can't remember the name, but it was in San Juan.

"What is true that Representatives are, in majority, not millionaires.

They are in the Senate! Almost entirely, with some even approaching billionaire status. But in the Representatives, while some have accrued a great deal of wealth, the majority of them cannot maintain two residences - one in their home district and one in DC - on a Congressional salary alone. So, yes, lobbyists can use that to make their offers mighty tempting to people who want to serve in Congress but find their salary package inadequate for how that works.

Having said that, you might have some ideas about how to solve that situation that differs from Ocasio-Cortez's proposals - and, fine, I'm not going to argue that. But that doesn't mean that part of what she's saying isn't true."

Maybe I am wrong, but it strikes me that any elected official that has to be given more in salary just so they won't be tempted into being bought off by lobbyists has no place in government to begin with. The word blackmail actually comes to mind. And it doesn't matter what party that elected official belongs to or what office they hold -from county dog catcher to the office of POTUS. And I make no exceptions for members of Congress or the Senate.

Most people, when deciding to pursue a job which requires them to maintain two different residences will take the location and financial issues into consideration before accepting the job and salary. They will likewise budget accordingly to the resources they have. The majority of us certainly don't get the opportunity to vote on whether we get a raise or not, and definitely not when our salaries are footed by even the lowest paid members of the work force. As a tax-paying voter I strongly feel Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has not even worked in her capacity as a Congress member long enough to qualify for a request of salary increase.

To whoever it is you quoted, I would suggest a complete overhaul to how Congress and Senate members are paid, whether it is the institution of hourly wages and/or wages and increases approved and paid for by their own constituents. This idea of granting elected officials the privilege of voting for their own raises is fundamentally flawed, and as history has demonstrated, an idea taken advantage of by the most corrupt.

Nice try.

How much is _your_ mortgage? Mine is $1200/month, or 14,400 annually. DC is quite a bit more expensive, but isn't she from the Bronx area? Prices aren't cheap there either. Let's pretend she spends $5k a month total in mortgage payments, or $60K annually? That leaves her $114,000 a year to live on, which is a good deal more than her constituents make.

Maybe instead of a raise for herself she could sponsor a $4500 tax rebate for people with incomes of less than $200,000 annually.....

;)

As I understand it from the quote. The raise is not for her, but for those who find it rather difficult to maintain two residences. I am not really gonna argue here since I barely know anything about how the American discount-Parliament works other than they get voted into power.

"Meanwhile many people are homeless and many more struggle to afford one home"

You for Universal Income or something? I think she was focusing on the representatives so that they can do their jobs without worrying about their loggings

"AOC belongs in Brazzers films, at best."

You mean right beside your mother?

In all seriousness low hanging fruit and a cheap one as well.

"Politicians don't need two homes."

If a Rep lives in Navada and has to work in Washington D.C. I think you get the point.

"not a damn one is "doing their jobs"

That is bs and you know it

" making a mom joke"

You made a slightly insulting "Joke" insuating AOC would have a better use in the Porn Industry. All I did was insult your mother, if your pride cant handel that, well, I am sad to say, your a snowflake. I think we both know which one of us her is the immature one. And he's not German.

"I'm glad you're trying so hard to win the "Stupidest Liberal Cvnt on Imgflip" award, you may have a chance"

And the he calls me immature. Pshh

If you live in Nevada and take a job in DC, you sell/rent your house in Nevada move and to DC.
1 up, 5y
I think your being purposefully stupid. If your a Nevada Rep, your gonna want to have a Nevada Residence so you can do shit in your own state. But at the same time you need to be in the Captiol to do other shit.

In point of fact, as I'm led to understand, (and I could be wrong) senate representatives are legally required to maintain a home in DC, on top of having to live in the area they represent.
