because social media companies are not government owned. They are private companies and have the right to refuse service to anybody for any reason.

political
racial
religious
etc.

If you dont like the rules, go to another platform or make your own.

So then why was the left so upset at the baker? His bakery is a private company.
3 ups, 6y
As the meme I made a couple of weeks ago said, that baker should have denied them service because they were liberal, not because they were gay, then the left couldn't complain.

Because they arn't principled.

So, a cellular phone company that is privately owned can refuse to allow conservatives to use their network because of their political views? What about the local internet service provider? Or the company that provides electric power?

yes to all of those.

Injustice is injustice- telling blacks they could have put in their own water systems wouldn't have solved the problem. If Trump were to buy Facebook or Twitter and started kicking off everyone who didn't agree with him, you'd be first in line shouting 'Fascist!'

are you kidding?

My people get kicked off twitter all the time. Because we are capitalists, we understand that although we have a right to speak, we dont have a right to force companies to associate with us.

private companies, and I state again;

HAVE THE RIGHT TO TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYBODY FOR ANY REASON

I'm not too clear on the argument, I heard someone else make it, and forgot to save the video, but it has something to do with the fact that Twitter et al are not publishers, they're platforms, opening themselves up as "public forums for debate", in which case the first amendment is supposed to apply.

Also, plenty of private businesses in the past have put up signs saying "we reserve the right to refuse service", but it was apparently deemed that there was no legal basis for that.

no "legal" basis.

freedom of association is a fundamental human right.

Which, if it can be applied to those private businesses, can be applied to Twitter and Facebook as well.

freedom is applied to all people.

It should be, but "freedom of political opinion" doesn't appear to apply to all people in the US. I believe it's protected in Washington D.C. (or maybe Washington state, I'm not sure which), but that's about it.

well thats why I dont listen to the state.

because they are ignorant to the ideas of freedom. They are liars who speak softly but strip you of your freedoms every chance they get.

and the bickering of the people of this country is a blessing for the governments agendas.

When a private company, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google, who control the greatest majority of discourse in the world, are given special exemptions by the government BECAUSE they are only hosting platforms, not publishing outlets, then they open themselves to control by their controlling of free speech. Sometimes libertarians get so caught up in their liberties they refuse to see the threats posed by someone who abuses liberty to enslave you.

Social media companies are private companies so the First Amendment does not apply since it restricts government.
Equal rights doesn’t apply b cause it applies only to selected classes and political viewpoint is not a legally protected class.
