Well here in the United States of America, the community collectively owns local, State, and Federal lands, goverment, military, monetary, and municipal services, as well as some manufacturing and construction, etc, agencies. Fought something called the American Revolution to wrest it from the hands of the British Crown and the Lords to which the general masses of regular people were basically chattel of.
The USA introduced socialism to the modern world. Instead of paying taxes to the British Crown in exchange for it not sending its army to burn your grass roofed village huts down and rape the women before slaying them, our taxes went to social services and infrastructure for the well fare of the masses. Roadways, schools, libraries, postal service, military... all no longer reserved for the sole benefit of the King and privileged classes (Lords, aristocracy, landed gentry).
We even fought a Civil War over it later as well - should more funding be used for the benefit of Southern farming States ti assist growing and sending their produce to cities for manufacture and export, or to the North were most of the money was being made from said manufacturing and import and thus home to greater concentrations of people requiring infrastructure because you can't have an outhouse in the middle of a boulevard and wells run dry quicker when you need to quench the thirst of thousands instead of just your family and slaves.
There is a solution for those with a distate for clean water and electricity, and that's the Theodore Kaczynski method. In places like in Montana where he lived, there are vast swaths of communtity owned land where anyone crafty enough can disappear into and grub for worms and the occasional fermented deer carcass and sip morning dew and dress in grass for warmth in the winter. Sorry, no interwebz. Those babies are juiced by the grid and transmit info by community owned satellites in orbit in space.
Enjoy, you troglodyte wannabes, enjoy.
