...so, would you say then, that in the absence of a legislative mandate, there is a systemic tendency to discriminate when they think nobody's looking?

Don't care who you think the source of the problem is. I'm just checking that you've pretty much confirmed why we have Affirmative Action to begin with.

Seems like they are saying there may be discrimination based on political ideology, not race.
[deleted]

I get that, but if the end effect is that there's a discrimination that disproportionately affects black would-be students, then we're back at square one regardless as to motivation. Their argument doesn't actually work.
2 ups, 5y,
1 reply
No, I don't think you get it. If the discrimination is based in political ideology, it's going to affect ALL races. And there's no proof of any one group being affected disproportionately. It is hard enough nailing the bastards just for being politically biased.

I'd like to see what stories or news you found about black kids with good grades being rejected. Keep in mind, if we are talking about Harvard, they only admit 5% of applications. So yeah. Lots of people with "good grades" get denied there, for instance.

"There's no proof" flying in the face of decades of painstaking statistical evidence is my favorite Internet troll tactic.

Not "OK, so there's evidence but let's go through it and it'll be weaker than you think it is." Just "nope, never happened. I don't want to do my homework and I don't have to."

Which is weird, because if you're looking to nail someone for being politically biased, learning that kind of statistical literacy and how this kind of research is put together to court-admissible levels of airtight evidence would actually help you.
5 ups, 5y,

I'm not looking to "nail" anyone. Just posting on my stupid phone on a lunch break. I have neither the time nor the inclination to do hours of research. I'm out of school indoctrination and so done with homework.

If the evidence is so airtight as you say, I don't see why it is so hard to just present some evidence when I asked. Then again, maybe it doesn't matter anyway. For every instance you can find a black person being discriminated against, you're going to find ten times as many white people being discriminated against. It's kind of the whole point of the main meme of this page.

"I'm out of school indoctrination and so done with homework"

How's that job in retail going? Seriously, anyone who thinks that they're done doing homework once they leave school isn't going very far in this world, and certainly isn't worth listening to on political matters.

Why even bother posting?

Yeah. The discrimination where an Asian student has a 0% of getting into a college and a white student 2% with the same scores as an average black student, who has a 98% chance of getting in with those scores.

What school does that?

Careful with pulling a CarrickMcwhain by lumping Asians with Whites. That bit of affirmative action started getting called for round the late 80s when schools like Berkeley and MIT (derisively referred to then as standing for Made In Taiwan) were getting taken over by Asians, much to the chagrin of, yup, you guessed it, the formally White majority. Since then, many a school has resorted to leaning more towards using extracurricular activities and that delightful essay about our incredible selves we have to write for the application as criteria because while having better test scores, Asians are too busy cramming to waste time on the glee club and cheerleading and being so focused on studying, they lack the sufficient personality to liven up that essay with tales about what a wonderfully fun loving contribution to puking at beer pong parties little Jimmy has been.

It was in the news not too many years ago about whomever at one Ivy League school flat out saying Asians have no personalities, so many won't thus make the grad-, excuse me, cut.

Three decades and counting, and you really haven't heard of this?

Your comments always make me laugh. Not because there dumb, but because you satirically word them and stuff like that.
The school was University of Michigan. Arizona state is also similar.
The reason Asians are lumped with white in this matter is because they are the ones who are hurt by affirmative action. Their hard work going to nothing. There are many differences, but also similarities.
The truth is that because Asians may not do as many extra curricular activities, that is a negative for them being accepted. That isnt racism, and it isnt systematic and it isnt undeserved. But, they do more. New York Times "Earlier this month, we learned that a review of more than 160,000 individual student files contained in six years of Harvard’s admissions data found that Asians outperformed all other racial groups on every measure of academic achievement: grades, SAT scores and the most AP exams passed. They had more extracurricular activities than their white counterparts. They were rated by interviewers who had met them as virtually on par with their white counterparts in their personal qualities. Yet Harvard admissions officers, many of whom had never met these applicants, scored them collectively as the worst of all groups in the one area — personality — that was subjective enough to be readily manipulable to serve Harvard’s institutional interests."
As far as the personality thing, a lot of times Asians have worse personalities, probably being from a different culture. Ones born here are usually more normal. It isnt as large of a problem, and a lot of times the personality thing is used to get this whole diversity thing in place. But, that also is a problem. Asians dont complain, we work our way up. The personality thing is bad, partially based on the truth maybe, but it isnt affirmative action. It can be used to put this affirmative action in place. If there was no expectation to be all diverse, do you think the personality would be an issue as much. Asians arent a victim race.

You forgot to mention how Asians have to score even higher on SAT's than white people do, while black people don't have to score /as high/ as white people. And that's /before/ taking the "personality quotient" into consideration.

But the lefties defend this because "zomg if they fix it so it's not unfair to Asians, the evilbad white people will benefit too!"
3 ups, 5y
Yeah, pretty much. Its about equalizing to a point where it isnt "discrimination". Hard pill to swallow, blacks and Latinos arent down today because of discrimination. Now that Asians have worked their way up from a poor minority and succeeded, they are the evil discriminators too. They cant justify that some cultures dont work as hard and stress educations as much, so they wont succeed as much. They are leveling the playing field, taking away fairly gained advantages.

That's some convoluted 'reasoning' you got there.

KIndly look it up, school policies to exclude Asians are designed to benefit whites.
Quotas in many are designed to maintain a white majority, regardless of how unqualified some individuals may be.
Other minorities are not becoming the majority in these schools.

I see a screenshot that appears to prove my point.

And sure, as soon as you stop pretending you told me something I didn't already know. You didn't say anything worth replying to, which was why I didn't reply.

Yeah. Its all to keep the whites on top. There are proportionality less whites in Harvard than the US. BLACKS ARE OVER REPRESENTED IN HARVARD. That is f**king ridiculous.
0 ups, 5y,

Come on, you Googled that but didn't see the rest of the entries?

Those 2 schools admit 98% black, 2% white, 0% Asian?

So it was Harvard, with the "no personality" thing - which, btw, is not my view or anyone else's. They do not have "worse" personalities. Don't allow yourself to be indoctrinated by racist stereotyping utilized by institutions of higher learning to exclude you.

The extraculiccular activities and clubs Asians are said to partake in tend to be academic, while suburban whites may indulge in nonsense for fun because they'll get a job working at Uncle Jim's after their stint as trust fund hipsters in Brooklyn gets boring so any effort outside of waiting on entitlement (check out "legacy" in terms of admission) would be a waste of that incredible IQ.

You're conflating affirmative action for minorties (which also favored Asians in the past when there far less of them and they were systematically excluded) with discrimation against Asians in order for whites to maintain the advantage they have always had.

To say Asians don't complain nor play victim is not supported by a misguided stance which erroneously lumps itself with the snowflake myth of beleaguered white privilege.

Your vocabulary is among the best on this site. Yeah. Its the personality scales are rigged to be more anti Asian, but its used to carry out affirmative action. Those spots that are taken from Asian students arent given to whites. You know Harvard is more diverse, with less whites (less than 50%) than all of America. Whites arent maintaining any advantage, they are giving spots to blacks, and to a lesser extent latinos. These spots are given unfairly for affirmative action.
“Asian-American applicants receive a 2 or better on the personal score more than 20% of the time only in the top academic index decile. By contrast, white applicants receive a 2 or better on the personal score more than 20% of the time in the top six deciles,” wrote Mr. Arcidiacono. “Hispanics receive such personal scores more than 20% of the time in the top seven deciles, and African Americans receive such scores more than 20% of the time in the top eight deciles.”
That means Asians are the least favored by a lot, then whites, then Latinos, and the most favored, blacks.
I think it is horrible, because it is obvious that the personality is to exclude Asians. But that isnt to keep whites in power. Harvard, like many other institutions, has a false notion that groups should be equally represented, even if they didnt work for it.
And you are misunderstanding. With the average score than a admitted black has, an Asian has a 0% chance, and a white has a 2% chance of getting in. With that score. Oh and I interestingly read that University of Michigan, the one that has these statistics, has nearly 100 "diversity administrators".

Yo, Clay, I told you not to address me?

Read this again S-L-O-W-L-Y:

"DrStrangeFate said to you about the 'worse cultures' in India and Asia not opening them to the wonders of capitalist success. Does that not bother you?"

Let me guess, he is me too?

You sure you did NOT reply to him, agreeing with him about "worse culture," no less?

Don't answer that, I laready know.

You're attempting to debate me on something you already saw BEFORE I got specific on it.

Didn't you learn you lesson last week when Grind and BillyVoltaire turned on you the second you didn't do their bidding like a good little wannabe?
As with your question yesterday if you fall in the same catergory as OM in terms of respectful discussion the answer is no. He does so while MAINTAINING his position. You try too hard to appease your opposition, and people see right through that. They'll gladly use you like England used Ghandi & Co against Zulus, but they will never see you as one of them.

Someone respectfully asked me last month if I could consider not being as harsh with you as I had been. Out of respect (you see how this works?) for him and because bashing hs school kids is not the nicest of activities plus I know where you're at - I've been there too when I was your age, only I found myself by being myself - I did.

But I dislike the phoniness required to go along with someone who keeps flipping on issues like a trapeze artist too fluffed up on cotton candy stuck in a microwave set on high, so kindly refrain from addressing me from now on? I still owe you a reply for that evolution one, but skip it, basically that also was an excercise in reiterating myself repeatedly on what we both already know.
1 up, 5y
I really dont care if they like me. I never have. I dont want to appease anything.
Being harsh? Im online. I dont cry or even really because you insult me. You are giving me a lesson on being myself. I am. I dont appease anyone. Basically the only friends I have in the politics section are from fun, and drstrangefate. Im not going through anything. Dont flatter yourself. Youre not a wise mentor and youre not doing anything for me.
I do change opinions on things as I learn, but thats not to appease anybody. I do joke around with people I like and am arguing with, but I dont flip the switch so they like me. You keep saying that.

Ill reply to him, I think I forgot. He is wrong, but it doesnt bother me, he just doesnt know. Asia wasnt the leader of the industrial revolution for a variety of reasons, but at many points in time, india and china were the most powerful.

Mock all you want, you cannot alter reality.

I get bored with this and did not read the rest.

As if there weren't enough white trash supremacists on this site crying about how oppressed they are because the mud people want some of their God given apple pie, I have to deal with you and Carrick playing foreign legion for them.
2 ups, 5y
"bored". You say that so much. You arent bored, just dont have a response.
The lawsuit is real. I will put it in one sentence to drill it in.
Exclusion of Asians isnt to help whites keep their power, it is to make a nice little rainbow, which means adding more blacks and Hispanics.
