The education system needs a major overhaul.

IMO, the important matter is that college education is a f**king ripoff. It is way too expensive for the product in trade and does not guarantee a job. May as well have a tarot reading to learn if you will win the lottery. If education is to be run like a business, it ought to be held to the same standards.

Its expensive, but for the level of career I want necessary. And by percentage, I meant that 7840 isnt much compared to all degrees. So it isnt much in scale

There is very little taught in a bachelor's degree that cannot be learned in a public library. Graduate school is a different matter.

I'm not saying that it hasn't been made necessary for the world we live in, only that it provides poor value to its customers while lining the pockets of the university. $80K and you're not even guaranteed anything but debt! And it continues to bet worse. You have internet access - look up the curve of tuition increases over the curve of inflation. And remember, 80% of what you're learning hasn't been new in decades, in some cases hundreds of years.

Yeah I agree to a point on that, and the public library thing 100%. The problem is that you cant go to a job and say "oh i dont have a degree, but i know it all."

Nope. College Graduates get better jobs. Depends on your capabilities, but if you are smart and looking to succeed, college is your best bet.

It depends greatly on whether or not you actually learned any skills. Too many people are not being told that. Many leave college with a degree and NO marketable skills. Many could (and would) do better finacial you simply taking a technical course that teaches a skill.

I'm not saying it isn't necessary. I'm saying it costs too much for what you get. Like paying $300 for shoes made in China for less $10 and that fall apart.

A conservative estimate ( based on a quick search, checking three sites) of average college tuition (including room and board) is $20K-$25K per year. Choosing the lower number works out to $156.8 million dollars of loans, not including interest. Whether or not ths is a "big number" or a "big deal" is a subjective interpretation. I would rather win 156.8M, than owe it or have it owed to me.
