I honestly don't understand dishwashers. You clean the food off the plate, and put it in the dishwasher to be sanitized. If you're going to scrub the food off the plates you might as well just put soap on the sponge and do it manually. That's what we do when we have to clean items that are not dishwasher safe. You could just leave the plates out to dry and get them in the next couple of hours to put them away. No expensive appliance needed, and you don't need as many items.
