The current political climate has produced some truly horrifying rhetoric, on both sides. The curious thing I keep seeing on this site is not so much how awful the original posts are, so much as the types of responses that arise. Often, when a conservative insults liberals and a liberal fires back, there's an immediate "aw, did I hurt your feelings, libtard? So much for the tolerant left", as though leftists are supposed to just accept insults (because that's TOTALLY what tolerance means).

On the flip side, when a liberal insults conservatives and a conservative fires back, the response often devolves into attacks against character, which is ridiculous. Some of the kindest people I know are conservative.

I'd love to blame Trump for the divide, but the reality is that he just capitalized on what was already there.

Sorry,but if you are a Christian from your childhood(like the majority of Christians),I know for a fact that your entire belief system is based on fear,because that's the way Christianity operates. They scare you,tell you you're going to hell if you don't believe,and that you'll go to heaven if you believe. And now,that they've got you clutched in fear,they teach you the rest of the stupid crap which is difficult to question because of the great barrier created by fear.

I don't need to know you. As soon as you mentioned heaven and hell(though it was a very subtle mention),the fear in your beliefs way strikingly obvious,as well as arrogance and the feeling of superiority(all of which originate from the ego). I definitely agree with SlimPickens on this entirely! Yes, i grew up in a Christian church. I left as a rebellious teenager/young adult. I went and lived a life. Did things and saw things. Then as an adult, I made my own decision to come and follow Christ. I can't be anymore happier.
