That's the idea, yes. They only care about the illegal votes, not the people.

Illegals can't vote because it's, you guessed it, illegal.

Reagan openly stated that thOse 3,000,000 would become future Republican voters, as did Bush Jr (not sure about Bush Sr, R.I.P.).

DACA is out of sympathy for students who have lived their lives as Americans. None were granted citizenship.

How's that for what people care for.

They aren't supposed to be able to vote, yet California hands out driver's licenses to illegals. Annnnd when you get a license in CA you are automatically registered to vote. So I guess it's happening. Or so I hear from the bigger kids.

Reagan had a lot of good things to say, namely "Trust, but verify." I believe in a path to citizenship for anyone who wants it if certain requirements are met.

Don't do that, don't lie. There have been a shit ton of bot memes about it, including from you, so let's not waste both our time on pretending you're mentally disabled, shall we?

School Board elections, do you have to look that up like you have to look up what that Reagan quote was in reference to because you weren't born yet and have no clue what you're talking about, comrade?

Reagan was referring to Gorbachev, if I remember correctly. Without looking it up and going off of memory it was in reference to SALT2 maybe?

Not exactly, but close enough (I'm rusty on this crap myself).

What does that have to do with path to citizenship, let alone with Ron "3mill" Reagan?

Well, I know that we have a problem with people being in this country illegally. I understand that we are a nation of immigrants and we traditionally welcome all who want to come here and assimilate. I also understand that the rules are in place for a reason, and those rules have been disregarded for far too long. Time has proven that you can't bring people in and expect them to come back for a court date, it just doesn't work. So a path to citizenship, much like what is happening just a short distance from where I am right now. Mexico can handle the humanitarian crisis while we sort everything out. Those who break fences and throw rocks can be shipped back where they came from, while those who wait their turn...like my ancestors and those of so many others...can please their case before being turned loose never to return. I think citizenship should be an incentive for them to work and contribute and stay out of trouble. Maybe the process is too complicated. In fact, knowing our government, I'm sure it is. It should be difficult but not prohibitively so to become a citizen.

Up until 1965 the path to citizenship was just arriving here from (mainly) Northwest Europe. The majority of Americans were alive back then, so that's within memory.
Mexicans also, if I got that right.

Question is, what's the problem with 'illegal' immigration that's not with 'legal'? A stamp on a piece of paper really make it that different?

America has been overcrowed since Woolly Mammoths & Co went extinct. We don't need any immigrants at all. Pick our own food, clean our own toilets, cook our own food. Immigrants are responsible for 70% of business start ups. They also do the majority of our science, med, tech research. Americans are really that lazy, unambitious, and stupid to do that on our own for ourselves? Good, eliminate immigration all together, and let us rot while our 27yo idiot kids spend their jobless lives on Xbox in their room and we adults fight the grand meme wars pretending to be CEOs doing this for God & Country between rounds of golf.

It gets better: As the baby boomers age with insufficient numbers to replace them due to declining birth rates , guess who's scheduled to come here in even more massive numbers to pay the taxes to support them and the rest of the entitled ooh-someone-plow-the-snow-and-replace-my-tornado-alley-trailer-after-this-spring's-storms masses and wipe their senile asses?

They can stop Cuban Cigars, they can stop the Cubans smuggling them in.
This anti-immigrant hysteria is a con, a lie, a distraction.
1. Stop ALL from staying.
2. Stop granting citizenship to any.
3. Stop allowing businesses to illegally hire and illegally exploit illegal aliens.
If Farmer Ted's kids don't want to pick the lettuce, let him lose the farm and starve. Period. Just like the good old days. The Great Depression is over, stop subsidizing the maggots.

Americans have become parasites of parasites. How ironic is that?
We don't want to get off our fat asses and do it, we don't have to have it.
Done.

I agree with you in part. Personally, I believe that anyone who wants to make a better life and assimilate into our culture should have the opportunity to do so, given that they aren't criminals who want to undermine our laws or destroy our way of life. Every country has borders, every country has requirements for entry based on their own needs and their national interests. I have visited Canada a few times for various hunts and even they have requirements. Yes, we are exceptional in the world but that is no reason for us to be weak. Our laws are in place for a reason and until they are changed properly they should be followed.
0 ups, 5y
Anyone who wants to make a better life for themselves should do so. At home.

Why are Americans lazy? Why do by the 3rd generation after immigrating here IQs lower to the level of the rest of the morons here and schooling and ambition even further? Because all imigrants are selfish parasites who gleefully adandoned their own people and family to come here to live in Beverly Hills. A doctor in the Middle East can live like a king, but they come to live in ghettos here for a decade or so till they can move to an attached house in a neighborhood that wants to spit on them. Same with this caravan and the rest south of the border. Boo hoo, they don't live in mansions on the acres they own, so they'd rather pay $35 for an 8hr sleep shift on a cot in a South Bronx slum?

True, in Latin America we caused social upheavels with the usual CIA coups installing right wing dictators or deporting MS-13 members - which started in the US - back to those countries. But we fixed our KKK problem, our Mafia problem, etc. Those problems there are not going away because those people flee them. Mind you, it takes thousands of dollars to come here, so poor persectuted refugees? There's a Spanish term for real one: Target practice. The ones who are really suffering have neither the means to get here nor the ability to do so without getting killed. So it's a bunch of bull.

No more immigration. Let's become the people of USA and not the dorm for self absorbed maggots that we've been since 1492.

Perfect example. Two weeks ago Clayborne went off on how "blacks have a culture of laziness," then went off on "lazy white trash" also.

How does she know? Her mother is a doctor who is 'NOT' muslim from 'NOT' Pakistan and does America a favor by treating our lazy fellow Americans who all do nothing but sponge off the system. They immigrated here, and thus are better than us, according to her. (Ask her for the link, she just posted a screenshot of my reply about how immgrants are leeches on another thread totally unrelated to this, my screenshot here was a reply I deleted when I realized she got me to post on the wrong thread now).

I live in NYC, grew up seeing this kind of talk. Anyone who thinks the caravan and the rest are a threat have no idea what foreigners talk like in private. I do. I was raised amongst them. The whiners have no clue. The problem isn't them taking jobs we don't want, the problem is that they hate us and our ways, and there is nothing learning the Pledge of Allegiance can do about changing that.

You do have a good point, but consider the fact that many people would love to adopt a baby. There is a waiting list a mile long, and some are adopted. I'm too old now but would have jumped at the chance to adopt just a few years ago. We were put on a list and nothing happened.

But I do agree with you that activists should set the example.
2 ups, 5y
There are far more people looking to adopt babies than there are unwanted babies.

Which is why Abortion activists do not have any moral standing to judge anything else as wrong, let alone more wrong.

"Abortion isn't murder"
Technically..yes it is, and no it isn't.
In many states, a man who kills a pregnant woman can be charged with double homicide. Other states, not so much, but other legal terms are ascribed to the act. In any case, it seems that, in the case of babies who are wanted, value is ascribed, whereas, if the babies are not wanted, no value is afforded them. It's a conundrum for the courts.

Easy fix:
Death is the cessation of two things over a defined period of time:
1. Heartbeat
2. Brainwave activity

"Life" should be defined as having a heartbeat and having brainwave activity. Influencing the cessation of both of these items should qualify as murder.
[deleted]

It's a bit more nuanced than that, but I essentially agree on the ends of your statement.

It isn't murder? According to what dictionary?

But thanks for proving my point. You have no moral standing to judge anything else as more wrong than murder, because you literally cannot bring yourself to believe a dictionary definition of the word.

Ever considered that maybe you aren't looking hard enough?
I don't know if it's even possible to sponsor undocumented adults.. but as far as sponsoring undocumented children who were (or still are?) detained...I hear there is a considerable amount of red tape involved, I think you have to be a direct family member(?), you may have to pay to transport them via plane to your residence $$, and you risk having your own house raided by ICE if you do.. so that could be why you're not seeing much of it using legal methods.
It should be pretty obvious why you wouldn't see it happening using illegal methods.
2 ups, 5y,
1 reply
I heard there was a sponsor program but the requirements are pretty strong and it's much like adopting. But it is possible.

And the proper term is illegal.
1 up, 5y,
1 reply
Really, you don't see it happening? Wow, then it must not be happening.

Never mind that people are donating to nonprofits who are doing exactly that, and donating to the National Immigration Law Center to help represent people trying to immigrate to the US. But sure, nothing's being done to help them <eyes rolling> Can we do more? Sure. So can you.

And the proper term is undocumented immigrant. You may use illegal immigrant if you like. Just "illegal" is lazy and kind of shitty.
1 up, 5y,
1 reply
Maybe, but it is accurate. Okay, illegal aliens if that works better for you. When they break fences and charge ICE officers they prove that they aren't interested in playing by our rules, so why should we bend over backwards to accommodate them? They are still in Mexico, so that government is working to give them better conditions while they wait to be accepted. This is standard procedure and a good thing. They can wait. The nonprofits can do their thing with the donations that they receive and if these people make the cut they will be admitted.

And I live very near the border and see the things that are happening.
1 up, 5y,

Illegal aliens has a negative connotation, but is technically accurate for people who are currently illegally residing in the US. If we're talking about the people who aren't currently on US soil, then they're technically not doing anything illegal, so we're back to undocumented immigrants or even asylum seekers (for those who are indeed seeking asylum). Just "illegal" minimizes their collective and individual value and discounts any desire they may have to actually become a US citizen (which most do).

Words are fun.

That is a very good point, I hadn't looked at it that way before. I will use the term "migrants" for now. I assume that most really do just want a better life and want to do things the right way and those who are causing trouble are the exception.
0 ups, 5y
Migrants works wonderfully :) We'll see how all of this shakes out - while I oppose closed borders and the tactics the Trump Administration uses against would-be immigrants, I also know that a strong immigration policy is important *because* there are exceptions in the crowd. There's a lot of hyperbole being thrown on all sides.
