are you really suggesting that tunneling across the border is as easy that people can do it with just shovels, then sneak thousands of people through them without being found out when there are helicopter patrols on both sides of the border looking for just that?

I am suggesting $5 shovels could be used to defeat a billion dollar wall.

Then you have some mental deficiencies. Go take a shovel and just tunnel into your neighbor's yard and see how well that works for you. It's a lot shorter distance than across the border and there is nobody trying to stop you.. I imagine you'll still fail.

You can imagine my digging ability all you like. I am 1 person who isn't trying to flee my own home out of fear and despair.

Isn't that on the Mexico side in Tijuana? I think the Mexican border guys know what they're doing.
__________

On Sunday, displeased Tijuana residents waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted “Out! Out!” in front of a statue of the Aztec ruler Cuauhtemoc, 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from the U.S. border. They accused the migrants of being messy, ungrateful and a danger to Tijuana.

They also complained about how the caravan forced its way into Mexico, calling it an “invasion.” And they voiced worries that their taxes might be spent to care for the group.

“We don’t want them in Tijuana,” protesters shouted.

Juana Rodriguez, a housewife, said the government needs to conduct background checks on the migrants to make sure they don’t have criminal records.

A woman who gave her name as Paloma lambasted the migrants, who she said came to Mexico in search of handouts. “Let their government take care of them,” she told video reporters covering the protest.

One Mexican protestor today in Tijuana spoke about the caravan: “Donald Trump was right, this is an invasion! What Donald Trump said was correct: this is an invasion!”

Crowds chanted: “Get out Hondurans, we do not want you here. Get out Hondurans, we do not want you here.”

Yup cause if an actual border wall gets built it's just going to sit on top of the ground and not be a few dozen feet down into it

A few dozen? the proposal I read about said 6 feet and I'm not sure if that even got built...
6 feet is pretty deep... but let's say there are 15 men with virtually nothing to lose digging the hole.

And they just happen to be skilled enough engineers to make sure it doesn't collapse on their heads.. and they are sneaky enough to dig it without anyone on either side of the border realizing it.. all with a 5$ shovel and nothing else

Especially being a even a crappy shovel is about 10$ lol

I was assuming sh*ts cheaper in Mexico.

I highly doubt a wall of that magnitude would collapse due to a man sized hole.. but I suppose it's possible.

The tunnel is what would collapse, not the wall

Ah. I wasn't imagining a tunnel.. Just a hole going directly down under and up

https://www.kpbs.org/news/2017/jun/21/us-mexico-drug-tunnels-change-amid-increased-borde/

When the illegals dig under the border, they aren't digging tiny holes just directly under the wall, they dig literal tunnels. It isn't possible for them to just "dig a hole" under the fence considering it is manned and patrolled. To sneak under requires a major undertaking, not a 5$ shovel.

The tunnel must start on the mexican border somewhere the police will not notice the digging going on, and it must come up in the US in a hidden location- some of these tunnels come up into buildings through floor hatches, etc. To dig a tunnel from one side of the border to the other and having it come up just where you want it means they have engineers overseeing the construction - these aren't average people blindly digging out of desperation. Those who go under the border rather than over it are almost always working for or with major drug organizations or human traffickers. The average migrant isn't digging tunnels.

If there's a will, there's a way. Seems I hear about people escaping prison every year and I'd imagine that would be considerably more difficult...
But in any case if what you say is true, i wonder if drug legalization would be more cost effective at curbing illegal immigration than spending a bunch of money to have the army or national guard there.

The fact you believe that some people digging holes will trump a giant wall, making the wall completely useless, is humorous to me.

Sappers are a part of siege warfare, and stone city walls are alot thicker than the one getting built. The walls those sappers were attacking also have machicolations. There is historical precedent for some people digging holes making giant walls completely useless.
0 ups, 6y
Trying to compare migrants with shovels to sappers is pretty hilarious. Sappers tended to be trained engineers or miners with serious experience tunneling. Also comparing a wall built from stone blocks to a wall built out of steel bars/sheets is pretty hilarious, too. You really think one of the border wall prototypes is going to crumble and collapse because of a hole dug beneath it? LOL
