1. The red tends to be rural and thus more sparsely populated.

2. None are totally red or blue, nor all are of either one. It simply indicates the majority within those areas.

A whole 50% even with history making the outcome all but certain.. meanwhile republicans gain enough of a senate majority to ram through judges without a single democratic vote, defended their governorships, and ensured Trump is fully protected from any impeachment attempts. The only thing dems won here is the ability to stop or slow legislation. There was certainly no "blue wave". It's as much a win for Repubs as it is for the Dems. Enjoy your dose of reality. In fact, the house map looks very similar to the map from 2016.. if trends continue, Dems will lose the election in 2020 due to the EC yet again.
