I remember a recent story where a mother got arrested for letting her kids play at the park....across the street.

We were afraid of what our parents would do if we broke the rules. Now it's illegal to spank children with anything but a hand. Don't get me wrong on that one. I hated spankings so I'm glad that's gone. Discipline and spanking are two different things.

We didn't even get the look. We had to tattle on ourselves before someone else did or it was waaay worse. If you knew you did something wrong and didn't tell and your brother told...oy! And he ALWAYS told. I remember one kid that tried it. We never saw him again! Lol.

Did you guys shoot bottle rockets and Roman candles at each other like we did too? Good times. 90% of the things I did as a kid would cause parents of today to have a heart attack! Lol. We did get into some things we probably shouldn't have but we knew there would be serious consequences if we broke the rules. I keep trying to teach these kids what's outside but they're not willing to leave the yard or hike off trail. They're not interested in bugs or finding the creepy crawlies in their world. They don't even climb trees and any tree houses are built by contractors with specs and the proper supplies. Ugh! They're not allowed to get hurt or make mistakes. Worst of all...they have no idea what their capable of. Sorry...kid person here. My heart breaks for the kids that don't get to know how amazing it is outside.

I still prefer being outside to being inside. Inside sux.

Bottle rocket / roman candle fights, so much fun & burning skin. I shot a roman candle at a friend, I missed him & got the girl behind him. Her hair flaired up (from all the hair spray lol) but it went out quickly w/ minimal burnt hair hahaahha.

Aquanet to the rescue! Haha! I was more of a "Chrissy" kind of gal back when. We were absolutely stupid with bottle rockets. We shot them under moving cars...raced the rockets. Dumbest idea ever. Those gas guzxling, oil leaking POS cars and trucks we had should have blown up or at least caught on fire. Lol. If my kids knew half the things I did...lol!

wouldnt you get killed with sawblades
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
The saw blades were very hard to see edge-on like that. The goal was to stand as close to the falling blade without getting hit.
The trashcan lid in the wires was the real treat... you’d throw a galvanized trashcan lid into the power lines. When it touched more than one wire, it’d cause a very loud explosion and sparks would rain down. The trashcan lid would have a hole melted in it :-)

lol the power would be out

Lol, when I hit the power line with a lawn dart, it was the line running into my friend’s house. It went POP! and sparks came down. But when my friend went into the house to make sure everything was ok, he lied and told me the power was out. What a dick! Lol :-)
