Yeah, but he said that before McCain died. CC is talking about /after/ he died. It was made clear Trump wasn't invited to McCain's funeral, and so he didn't attend. The speeches given by McCain's daughter and others, while not naming Trump directly, were /pointedly/ taking personal potshots at him. Like her comment "The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great."
The only thing Trump did, later that night, was to tweet "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN", and otherwise remain silent about the whole matter. This apparently disappointed his allies that he didn't defend himself from the personal attacks.
Going by that alone it's evident he was the only one who chose to be the bigger person, adopting the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" attitude, which is patently unusual for him.
