I prefer the self checkouts at Walmart, because most of the employees are incompetent.

Tho I do agree Walmart employees are incompetent especially in Texas. I personally refuse to use them, knowing they take jobs away. And if they insist on me going to self check out, then I'll just leave the cart there and wak out.

Here in Kerrville, Texas, our Walmart has the self checkouts, but there are employees who work them and help with customers who need it. So I don't think they take as many jobs away as you might think. Also, before the self checkouts, there were never many registers open, anyway. Maybe 3-4 at a time.

Like I said, here in my town (which isn't big by any means...has a population of around 25,000) the Walmart didn't have many registers open and the cashiers that "lost their jobs" didn't really lose them. Most of them got moved to other departments within the store.

Again, I can only speak for the local Walmart and what I see here.

So keep that in mind, you are speaking from the experience of living in a 25k town. In NYC we have apartment buildings with more people than that. In dt Los Angeles thats one city block.... you are not a majority, not even close, and if you have never lived out of your town your perspective is narrow. You could learn from others with more experience.

1) I've lived in Washington State in four different towns, San Antonio, Texas and Connecticut. I was in the Army for 5 years and lived in Kansas, Missouri, Virginia, and South Carolina.

2) I've been to Alaska, California, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Chicago, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Detroit, Michigan, New York City....

3) I was simply talking about checkouts in Walmart and even stated that I was talking about a local Walmart in my local town where I live with 25,000 people. So no need to lecture me about how it's only a small sample and how I could learn from others with more experience. I am well aware that I haven't experience Walmarts from all over the country.

I was pondering that earlier today as I Left a Wal-Mart and saw the 'Now Hiring $11.00/hr" sign..

They should have a Timer, from the first Item scanned to the Select Payment Type... pro-rate the discount to be equal to the 'net pay' for starting wage... they already have that one cashier in place to monitor the self checkout 'pen' put them in charge of looking for people who 'abuse' the clock
