To be fair, every community changes over time. The the weekly leader board is definitely not always an indication of meme greatness but rather an indicator of high comment activity with a few exceptions. Anyone who comments enough can make it to the top. I think there are some good memers here. But also some who aren't that great. I may be the latter. Who knows. I do think some of the worst do occupy the front page at times, and some of the best never see the light of day. I book mark users who make memes that I like and visit those pages much more often than I do the actual pages. I am always the last to know if I make it to the front page for that reason.

Anyhoo, it changed into whatever this is now, and it will change again. I think we do get caught up in being comfortable with "this" and rejecting "that" when the change comes. Just my humble thoughts.

Definitely some good new memers. Giveyouahint, I think you started as I was leaving a bit ago..., and others have been good. It's just different I'm getting used to it.

I have been here since 2015. I was only making memes and sharing them elsewhere. Only the past year did I realize all this social business was going on. I never ventured past the generator.

So you miss this being hijacked by hostile political memes and top memers stealing theirs from Facebook?
4 ups, 7y,
1 reply
I don't think that's necessarily true...there were some great political memes. Not all were from Facebook. What I won't miss are the ur gay, bust a nut, pubg/fortnight, middle school be like stupidity.
2 ups, 7y
People complained about the deluge of memes that were not only political, but hyper antagonistic. They're still around, and sadly as vitrolic.
The stealing I referred to were of non-political memes that some star players and their syncophants routinely wended their way to the top spot with.

I dunno. A lot of 'top users' have been complaining a lot about newbies lately, and saying the flip has gone to hell. But I'm thinking some of this is sour grapes, like old men shouting about the rotten kids nowadays taking their places. I haven't been visiting the front pages recently, but that's because I've found a few good memers to hang with. I actually think the quality of content has improved a little, but that the troll-ier types tend to get page boosts by hook or crook. There are several newish users who are heads and shoulders above the usual mean for the site over the 2-1/2 years I've been here.

Dash had a good meme and commentary section on similar issues: imgflip.com/i/29p23i Dash has a reason for less content nowadays due to his little kid. :)

I'm not sure I'm complaining about newbies...there are plenty of good ones....its the plethora of crap....yhats what I complain about
3 ups, 7y,

I find that there often is a plethora of crap coming from those who have been here a long time. A certain high-ranked user, name withheld, makes some of the most boring and rather pointless memes on this site, but is generally worshipped and seems to tend to hold himself in that regard. To this day I'm trying to figure out why the h3ll he has so many points, and the only thing I can figure is that he has been on here from almost the beginning. :P

It's been kind of hard to tell... "top users" I think top 10. I couldn't really think of a time I pissed anyone off but you never know. It seems today it's safer to carry a gun than an opinion :)

Currently being at #17 I consider myself a 'top user'. I'm thinking #30 on up, perhaps a few more. Anyway I've not noticed anything from you. Just two or three which have been doing a lot of complaining lately, and one I've never really cared for. All to remain secret. ;)

I guess a little simple math and I can figure that one out.

Ran out of thread!

I know you weren't bagging on anyone. I just think it can't hurt to laugh at it a little. A little chuckle can make everything a little better! I think this whole comment section may be good for a lot of people who have felt a struggling sensation though. It may help everyone find perspective.

Sometimes new people don't realize that their presence may be viewed as "you are stepping on my territory!" And they may come waltzing in with out thinking about some of the things they do and say. The older users don't usually remember being that new guy once, and forget what it's like to come into a new place.
3 ups, 7y
Well said. CHEERS!

Oh I remember, It was at least a month before I got my first comment and responded. I also remember being mortified when I first saw my name on the 7 day leaderboard, I didn't understand it and wanted it gone :) I will say overall I think the people are more outgoing now, its just that it seems to be a smaller active group.

I've had a complaint but not about the users, or memes, or repost or the front page. Me it's just the lack of site/mod communication (Next to none)

If they could establish a system to let us know when they are doing site construction or modification that would be great, and replying to messages would go a hell of a long way lol.

I was on a paintball site for years before coming here and the mods and owner were always in communication with the users for everything, going to do a site modification, there was a post letting us know, send them a email, ding a reply and often within hours.

That's it, my moment of complaint is over :)

Yeah, Dash, not to stroke your ego, but when I make comments about top users and sour grapes it's not about you - you're the f**king saint around here XD XD XD You're the positive example I use. :)

I've actually come to appreciate the quietude a little of the mods on site here. I've been trying to get a profile for a noise project of mine put up on Rate Your Music, which is a music site I used to write reviews for and comment in a long time ago. Well the moderator who was assigned to my page is a pointless pain in the ass, seemingly questioning everything I do for no reason I can see other than to stoke their ego. And they merely hint at solutions. I almost asked him if he trolled on imgflip. XD Anyway, I agree that we could be notified better about changes and receive replies, but sometimes NOT having someone watching over your every move is better than constant meddling. :)

I'm far from a saint but thank you :)

He or she sounds like a real pleasure to work with.... Not!

I'm not saying full blown mod interaction, just a banner or something with updates and better email replies is all :P

Have fun memeing and see you guys here and there :)

The only thing grapes are good for is wine. I really give a shit less about any newbies or anything else. I pretty much haven't been active since last Year. I see pretty much the same memes, Just like the one at the top of the front-page, I think Raydog made that a long time ago. But to each their own lmoao

I understand the arguments about the site turning over, but I like the fresh blood. And someone who comes on site probably hasn't been studying the last few years of posts to make sure they aren't reposting, to be upvoted by people who look at a meme they've never seen before, despite it being a fourth-generation or whatever. I keep from not giving a sh!t by trying to make acquaintance with new users; sometimes it doesn't work out, more often I find someone funnier or more unique than much of the old guard. I just got jaded to some 'elite' names when I caught a couple whining like privileged children whose exclusive playground was suddenly filled with strangers. I just don't have the time to be bitter when I'm trying to think of something original to submit. ;P
6 ups, 7y,

I had a nasty comment or two made to me from some of these self proclaimed elite when I first became active in comments. That seemed to be the attitude that was floating around.
4 ups, 7y
Really? I like your stuff and comments!

Some feel they're guardians, or that it is 'their' site and that new users have too much influence. That's bullsh!t. I'm top-twenty, but I try and follow DashHopes' example and be helpful when I can. I got called out on a private message by a top user when I tried helping a young newbie get along on imgflip; they tried to make it sound like a trust or moral issue, but I got the feeling that they felt as if they felt privileged to have a say. Tried to come off as friendly but it quickly turned a bit miffed when I didn't feel the need to abide. And lately it just seems that several are throwing fits and ditching the site for 'vacations' when their submissions don't get front page (despite claiming not to care about points, etc.) or because some newer users become popular. Sometimes I feel as if I'm back in high school and I hated that time then, so I especially find it abhorrent now. :P

Thanks. I've actually though about a meme complaining about the complainers the last couple weeks, but have been too busy to put the necessary effort into it. Maybe tomorrow?

You have a way with words KenJ. I guess when people feel threatened they act in childish and sometimes desperate ways..
I think the more the merrier around here. It's not as much fun when activity dwindles. Comments are the place to be if you're looking for a good time. I hope we'll see things calm down a bit. I have taken notice of several new accounts which seem very suspicious. Some of whom only seem to be commenting to irritate or embarrass. I am doing my best to side-step all that.
2 ups, 7y,
1 reply
Those kinds of accounts have always existed, but their strength tends to come in waves dependent on what's going on in the culture at any given time. Yeah, just side-step.

I have more fun commenting than I do making original memes to submit. The most successful users usually come up that way too. :)
2 ups, 7y
Comments are exactly how I came by my points. Lately my ideas for any good meme are few. Memers block!

"some of this is sour grapes" Couldn't agree more! I've been away for almost a year, and that was exactly what i found when i came back
3 ups, 7y
What strikes me is that you can detect that because you've been away, and I feel I can detect it because I've been on here near-constantly for two-and-a-half years (killing work boredom). It's far more prevalent the last couple months or so. And some of the people I've spent a lot of time trading barbs with here are beginning to get on my nerves. I mean, they don't like it here now? Fine. Go play on Reddit or one of those soul-sucking places that'll kiss your a$$ more thoroughly. Excuse me while I go wash the bile out of my mouth... XD

Not that I'm against them. Just the flood plus sheer hatefulness expressed. Debate, humor, even negativy is fine. But such bitterly caustic ad hominems instead of real discussion isn't appetizing.
