Let's see, when was the last time I made the front page? Almost three weeks ago.

Actually, my memes aren't even being seem much anymore by anyone. Not really sure what's going on.

That's no good... Honestly the majority of mine are what I call slow movers, They're original templates and get buried, so by the time people get around to seeing them it's too late for them to be considered "hot" They'll creep up to the 4th or 3rd page and hang around for a bit, getting maybe 30/40 upvotes in a couple days before falling back down again. Either that or they don't hardly get seen at all except for my really loyal fans that always check my page. I do make front page at times, but only if I get a good feature time it seems...

I've never been this slow, except when I first started. Some I'll have 100-200 views but only. 2-5 upvotes. I'm beginning to think I'm not funny anymore.

I think we all have slow spells at times and think that way, a lot more users than there used to be, I know it's a lot different than it was 6 months ago...

Us old school users are a dying breed. lol! Jk...

It's funny I'm getting close to my 1 yr anniversary and I feel like an old school user. Probably because I give out a lot of information to new users about the site lol.

No, can't say that I have. I haven't been able to spend as much time on here as I used to. I'm kind of out of the loop on who's who here. I saw this new user, 88mph, and he/she made it to the seven day leader board in their first week. I'm weary of fake users lately who are just here to troll since that one user a month or so ago did the same thing before they were outed as someone trolling. They made the seven day leader board as well in their first week and I knew they were some older user who made a fake troll profile.

There's a lot of alts running rampant and upvoting for sure....

I think there a lot of users just out there thinking "comments are where it's at" I'm not big in the comments, if i see a great meme I'll be like Dash and leave an attaboy. Or once in a while do a little bantering. I can honestly say, and not trying to pat myself on the back, is i have been VERY fortunate over the last couple months with a string of front pagers. To me, thats where the fun and points are.

Happens to all of us my friend, One week I had 3 on the front page, 2 on the second, and 2 on the 3rd. After that I made 6 memes that all barely got around 10 points, you just can't predict the ebbs and flow of this website ;) Glad you had a hot streak though bro :)

Exactly! Comes and goes in streaks, the good ones fall by the wayside, the "meh" ones somehow get to the front...

It's not really in category's like that. A lot of people don't realize that our audience that don't make any memes have a big influence along with timing. If you make a meme that is what the people that come here to copy stuff for their own use are after. And it gets released at a good time and is easy to find when they come looking for something like it. Then you are golden and it will go viral. Now being funny all around and friendly helps a lot. Your friends and or fans will boost your meme up however many upvotes and give it a better chance at being seen by the main audience. But sometimes you can get bad timing and a release either too far back on the latest, or not what people are looking for at that particular time on that particular date. The fair thing is that timing is completely random based on a lot of factors and nobody has a better chance than another to make their meme popular. That's why I just focus on fun and make memes and comments regardless of how any of them do. One upvote means you made one person laugh/happy for a minute at least or hopefully more. That one laugh for me is enough like when i tell a joke to a friend. Anything above and beyond is just gravy on the biscuit my friend, that's how I try to look at it, I fail sometimes but I try to keep that thought in the back of my head ;)

Very true, keeping things simple yet not overused helps a lot, it's the common thing people are looking for. When I go and make some crazy original photo shopped meme, I know that only a certain group of people are going to enjoy it. Just because I spent time and effort on it, doesn't make the fact that it isn't a simple template with a new joke on it like most people are looking for. You have to work with the audience you have if you want to be popular constantly. I choose to go against the grain so I except the fact that not everything I make is going to do good here. Sometimes they may luckily get seen by the right group of imgflip fans in time to make the front. Sometimes you get 9 upvotes and one comment. You truly enjoy being here and make fun stuff that people like to comment on. Your points really don't matter compared to that reputation. People can fake points with alts and all that and make their memes do good. But I reputation like you have can't be bought with points, it can only come from you being the type of person you are and others appreciating it ;)

Basically my whole first year and a half here at IMGFLIP my intended audience was my facebook page. I spent very little time in the comments here and just used this site as a meme maker. But now that I use facebook very little anymore, I got more involved in making people laugh HERE instead of my facebook page. In fact, I think I've shared more of others users stuff on facebook than my own lately!

I don't hardly even go to the leader board to see whats what...ghostofchurch commented one day and said congrats on 500k and I was like, what? So then I tried to stay under the radar, (because I am a type II guy) about a million and then LYNCH had to go and crack that door open!

But it is all good...make memes...make people laugh...encourage others to do the same by upvoting! The system works and I aint messing with it!

I started the same way, but it only took a couple months for me to get hooked on commenting. I'm also never on facebook anymore, we are very lucky to have found this unique online community, I'm not messing with the formula either ;)

I've found lately that keeping things simple, splash of color over white font, a fresher joke, a not so overused template, non political/ controversial AND timing all are factors. Like you said, there are deviations and outliers, etc but if you're not here to have fun, you're losing out. If you're worried about leaderboards, it will be work. And I definitely don't need more work.
