The very existence of nature is proof enough. Every design means there must have been a designer. If there is no God, what's the purpose of life?

On your list of must-reads put “The God Delusion;” it covers everything.

nothing does, the concept of purpose is a human made thing to feel important and good about themselves and or to understand something whilst im quite content, happy even, that i have no purpose

Why is murder bad then?
1 up, 8y,
1 reply
that is a faulty dilemma, murder is only considered bad to those with that particular opinion, some people think its the best thing ever
1 up, 8y
So Mao Tse Tung, Stalin, Pol Pot and others were justified in their acts of genocide because they thought it was the best thing ever? No, it's not ok, no matter what they believed or how they tried to justify it.

According to the Bible, nobody made God! He has always been and always will be.

Being older doesn't mean it's real. (Judaism is older than Brahma, though)

there's a really interesting doc on youtube somewhere, where they found evidence of the original city of Dwarka under the ocean, and last time it was above ground was confirmed to be about 12,000 years ago. can't remember what the doc was called tho' but it's worth checking out
[deleted]

no it's not. Hinduism out-dates Judaism by a couple of millennia (you have to remember, the vedas were transmitted orally for a long time before they were written down) and there is scientifically verifiable proof that dates Hinduism to 10,000 years prior to Judaism (i'm referring to geophysical surveys that identify the Saraswati river, and also that verify the existence of Lord Krishna's city, Dwarka being buried under the Indian Ocean 12,000 years ago) Judaism is the new kid in the block by comparison :-)
1 up, 8y
Wow, I honestly didn't know it was that old! But The Torah records clear back to creation (the beginning of the earth) even though God didn't choose Jacob as patriarch of the Jews until around 4000 BC. That's interesting about Krishna though, my brother lives in India. :)

"I can't comprehend my existence therefore God."
Still the oldest and most intellectually bankrupt argument for God's existence.
"I don't know how those presents got under the tree therefore Santa Clause."

Sorry, I didn't mean to start an enormous comment war! ( Actually, comment wars are kinda fun.) Haha!
In answer to your comment: But atheists do the same thing. "I can't comprehend my existence, therefore, evolution" - or whatever they may come up with.
Also, I said nature is full of complex designs, which require an intelligent, powerful and creative Designer. I didn't say I couldn't comprehend my existence. It's easy. I was created.
1 up, 8y,

Not quite. The atheist can honestly say "I can't comprehend existence therefore let's not jump to any conclusions." I've said this before. Evolution is not a genesis theory. Evolution is the name given to the process by which life changes over many generations and responds to environmental pressures and natural selection. That's it. Saying "I don't know therefore evolution" is being dishonest. Evolution is not an idea, it's a natural process that can and has been indisputably demonstrated. To deny evolution occurs is to deny reality itself, by the truest definitions delusion.
[deleted]
2 ups, 8y
Let me remind you it is merely the Theory of Evolution, not the Law of Evolution. Don't let your emotions and beliefs devalue your argument. It is not yet indisputable.
1 up, 8y,
1 reply
But to say everything came into existence by evolution is false.
1 up, 8y
Evolutionists don't say anything came into existence by evolution. That is a creationists strawman.

can you prove it, because atheism is (mostly) based on the idea that everyone can believe what they want, as long as the opposite can't be proven (that includes god as i'm not aware of any prove for either side, or have you been to heaven and checked?)?

ok, maybe i said that in a weird way: atheist means person without a god, so technically your right, but what i meant was that atheists rarely claim to know about the (non)existence of a god. ask any atheist (who knows what they are talking about, of course) if there's a god and they'll say:"i don't know, but i think no". after all there is no prove for either side, so they'll just let everyone believe what they think is right ( the same goes for theists as well, it's just more common with atheists)

No. Atheists will say "No, there is no god"
1 up, 8y,

i wouldn't and last time i checked, that was a pretty common standpoint (follow up with "can you prove that" and you'll see what i mean)
[deleted]
1 up, 8y,

No. Atheists will say "there is no god"

If you wouldn't say that, it just means you're not atheist...agnostic maybe, but not atheist. and as for proof, there is no burden of proof on anyone, to prove that something which doesn't exist...doesn't exist. if someone believe something does exist, then the burden of proof is on them, to prove that it exists.

no an agnostic would say "i don't care, it's none of my busyness", an atheist would say "i don't know, but i think not". the world isn't black and white
[deleted]
2 ups, 8y,

No. Atheists will say "there is no god"

Agnostics might say, "i don't know if there is a god, i don't necessarily believe in one, but i keep an open mind"

but Atheists will ALWAYS say..."there is no god"
0 ups, 8y,
2 replies
agnostics DON'T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING, because they're tired of debating. Atheists, on the other hand, have a clear standpoint on the matter, which they will always defend, it's just that some (mainly the one i'm talking about) acknowledge that this is only possible to an extend, without proof!

"It doesn't change reality" even though my whole point was, that you (or anyone else for that matter) knows what the reality of this topic is. and you also say that everyone can still believe what they want, so basically:"i don't care what you believe in, if it's not the same as i do, it's wrong!" doesn't make sense to me...

Ok, so say I believe the moon is made of cheese. But of course you know it's not, because you've read somewhere that it's been scientifically proven not to be cheese. I'm still free to believe that it is, and I can make up something like "It may be rock, but until I can see for myself I'll believe it's cheese." That doesn't change reality. You're right and I'm wrong.
God gave people free will to believe what they want. He gave them an earth to live on, and even a book all about Himself so they could know Him (even though they rebelled against him) so they are without excuse.
1 up, 8y
but how do you know it's not cheese? because it's proven to be rock! for me that means it's rock, period. how do you know there's a god? ya' don't! that's faith!
