Right now it's Rhode Island Reds, have found they are the best layers. Will also raise 30 Cornish Cross chickens every year so we have plenty to eat and don't have to buy the junk they sell at supermarkets. I personally really like the reds, keep 12 hens with one rooster. I get around 6 to 12 eggs a day, they add up fast. I share with my friends that are in need of them. Like one friend of mine had an aunt that was stricken with cancer. The chemo made her unable to keep food down, but for some reason she could eat the eggs my chickens laid. So I gave her plenty, it was a good feeling knowing I made the last year of her life better just by sharing some eggs with her.
