Sorry, didn't realise I hadn't. I try and keep up with all my faves, and you're one of em. Sad songs? now I'm sad, Boomtown Rats, I don't like mondays about a school shooting in the 70's, but the one that always got me was Seasons in the sun by Terry Jacks, it's like a good bye letter as someone is dying. Or anything by Justin Beiber, that just makes me sad.

Alone again, Naturally gets my vote as saddest song ever. And my vote hold a lot of sway in such matters. This is a lyric version in case you never or not recently heard. You really need the lyrics to appreciate. There is one mistake though in the second half. It's "Never wishing to hide the tears" after the bit about his father dying. Not, "Never wishing to have cried the tears". Which completely changes the meaning, so I thought I'd mention it and comments are closed on its youtub. So hard to find good help.

"Living Years" by "Mike and the Mechanics" is pretty sad.

I totally forgot about that song... I may have to rethink vote after a re-listen. I do recall Living years was a tough one to get through without a little pollen getting into my eye... I hate when that happens. sniff sniff

oh wow.... Absolutely brilliant song and brilliantly executed. When he does the "I wasn't there that morning" bit, well, if that doesn't claw at your heart... then you just ain't alive. But I'm sticking with All Alone because, to me, there is a hopeful tone in Living Years. A sort of message to the next generation that it doesn't need to be this way. "Alone" feels more personal. It's "That Guy" and he is beyond shattered. He has no hope, well... naturally! And using that word (naturally) in that way is like the final dagger getting him when he's already good as gone.

How did you survive, did you end up crushing the guy on impact?
