ICYMI: raydog made a meme (still on front page) and I replied with this. Got enough "praise" to submit as a meme. So here it is.

I question why you spelled it "Crappy" instead of "Crappie". Was that a slip-up or did you do it on Porpoise?

In some places it's called a "croppie", but if you get this group going with puns, we'll never shaddup!

I didn't even know there were any out here (I'm in AZ too). I haven't seen a crappie since I left VA about 18 years ago.

San Carlos was our best spot. They are in most of the lakes you have to find them but this was back in the 60's and 70's so I have no clue what it's like now. Some of the lakes have Stripers and Rock Bass.

I tried fishing some of the small lakes/ponds around Phx when I moved out here. The bass were about the size of the sunfish I used to flyfish for back home during the heat of the day. The panfish were tilapia, I guess good for eating but reminded me of bullhead cat with their spines. Not worth the puncture wound you took getting them off of the hook :)

My dad knew where to find the decent sized bass. 3-6 lbs occasionally larger. They are in deep water unless it's spawning season. I still have family in Phoenix and Prescott so one day I'll have to see if the old methonds still work.

That's pretty normal for them... back home texas-rigged plastics were always my baits of choice. I miss the convenience of being in the Virginia countryside, ponds lakes and rivers everywhere. I could fish any kind of body of water (except ocean) within 30 minutes of my house, and the ocean was only 2 hours away. 60s and 70s, Arizona has changed quite a bit since then, in fact quite a bit since I moved here in 98!

I'm a 2 minute walk from the beach and there are two large brackish rivers within 15 minute drive. I don't fish anymore. Lost the desire. I left Phoenix in 1977 so you could imagine the shock when I went back. Where I use to live is was very middle class and new homes. Now it's a shithole. Every house has bars on the windows and the schools I used to attend are all fenced in and barred up. I was disgusted. My dad was stationed at Luke.

you were probably somewhere areound 20/30th ave is my my guess. The city does get rather rough. I'm down in Awhatukee if you have any reference for that. More or less on the border with Chandler. Thank goodness for charter schools here is all I can say, some of those are still good!

59th/Camelback. My sisters ex's family lived in Chandler. Mostly mobile homes back then.
