Made me think of Chappelle and Clayron Bigsby

That was some funny stuff.

Chappelle is one of my favorite comedians of all time. I'm still trying to get my hands on all six of Clayton Bigsby's books, but unfortunately two were never published.

That sounds like a repost, but that doesn't mean it's lost it's humor

I know its a "repost." Question is, has it been posted on imgflip?

It reminds me of a bit that Bill Cosby (say what you will about him) used to do. He told about the time that Cos walked into Ray's dressing room. The lights were all off, but Ray was shaving. Cos could feel the stupidness coming out of his mouth, but couldn't stop himself, saying "Ray, what are you doing shaving in the dark? Turn on some light before you cut yourself!"

Yeah, that's funny. I think there are a lot of comics that joke about this.

Right! I met Josh Blue one time here in Denver. Great guy, and I like performers that can take a negative and turn it into a positive.
5 ups, 9y
And in the case of Ray Charles, I meant that the negative is that he's blind, not that he's black. I just thought I would set the record straight on that before some SJW calls me a racist!

Maybe you could stop complaining about reposts and just push the down vote button.

Don't get me wrong, I like the meme, it just appears to have been a repost because I can literally google "Funny memes" and that same meme will show up under a different picture.

That's where I got this meme from. Googled "funny pictures" and I saw it. But that's what memes are for. Sharing them and allowing someone who hasn't seen them, enjoy them.

True, true. But, the reason I get point out reposts when I see them is because i made a meme that was a repost one time and got a LOT of crap for it. I didn't even know that it had been made before.

I tend to ignore those users when they cry repost, but sometimes I'll say something. I post reposts from time to time, sometimes not knowing they're reposts and other times know they are...like this one.
7 ups, 9y
Alright man, sorry for shouting repost, but I have seen like twenty today alone and called out all of them. But keep doing what you do.

So now you have decided to to become like the ones who cried foul at yours?

That is the way it seems isn't it? But, ever think that I might have reasons beyond what I have typed into the comment box? Yes, people cried foul at one of my memes, and now I tend to cry foul at other reposts. But I never said that that was the only reason as to why I point out reposts. I have done this ever since I started on imgflip, long before people called my meme a repost. I don't like to see reposts, and it is not like this is the only meme I have called out on being a repost.

I understand that there is a downvote button, I use it a lot. But why would I downvote a meme that I enjoy but have seen before?

I don't know, man. I just don't understand the need to point out a repost. If you like it, why even bring it up? I almost always know when my memes are reposts.

Yeah man. Sometimes I just don't think before I say things man. I apologize

Personally I hadn't seen this before, and I would dare say many others who commented had not, and most likely others who did not comment. I get you want to see new stuff, but why get testy about it when its new to others just because you've seen it. To me this is a little like going to a movie premier then standing outside telling anyone in line for the next show "hey don't enjoy this, it's been seen before".

I know at least a couple hundred other people that have seen it before. I never said that I didn't like the meme, I have found it very quickly in the past by a google search of "funny memes" and I know that many others have probably seen it. I never said that this meme is not enjoyable, I just stated that it is a reposted meme that plenty of other people have seen before. I do not doubt that people haven't seen it before, but my point was that it was made before.

I know what you are saying, but what is the point if not to make whoeer posted the meme feel bad, or to tell others not to enjoy is too much because its a repost. I still don't get what it accomplished to do this, again as in my example above.
3 ups, 9y
I am not trying to make anyone feel bad, alright? I just believe that original content is better than a repost. Its like if a rapper took a song by another rapper and threw it over a new beat, keeping the same name and lyrics, and calling it their own. Now people would say something about that, right? Now why am I the only one who is having an argument about this when others have said that this is a repost?

I had to go back up to continue the thread. I Deleted several memes early on because people cried repost and I thought I was commiting a serious infraction (being new). I had no idea, it was what came into my head when I looked at the images as I'm sure it did others in hindsight. I am a big advocate for originality, ifr you go through my profile and look I rarely use imgflip templates and mostly when I do I make changes to them so that I do not have to listen to "repost". I'm sure you are right that some are intentional, just as I am sure you are wrong in other cases as there can be 2 people who had similar ideas. I will submit to you these 2 pie charts, I thought I had the most original idea ever when I created
imgflip.com/i/vlqfq only to find 8 months earlier another user had created imgflip.com/i/lyx1j . The ideas were similar and not a true repost
but still too close for comfort and if I had seen the other one before mine was at the top of page one, I probably would have deleted mine. I ask you to think about what the "repost" comment's impact can be, as well as what you get out of it. I don't believe it does anything to reduce the possibility of seeing them. Also rap was built on reposting other artists work in the form of "sampling". If you are a real rap fan you should love reposts.

I understand what you are saying, I made a meme that I thought was really original but then people shouted "repost." Also, I said nothing about sampling other rappers music, I said taking the lyrics and title, throwing a different beat under it and a new voice rapping it and the new rapper calling it their own. I understand the whole sampling other rappers art, I am a rapper too. I am not very good yet, but I produce my own music and am starting to rap as well. What I meant with my rap statement could have been said for any genre of music, I have just been listening to a lot of rap recently. My point was making a repost meme is like being a rapper like Jay Z or Eminem, etc. and taking a song's lyrics and title from another rapper like Logic or J. Cole, rapping those same lyrics over a new beat in another voice with the same name and then releasing it to the public under the new rapper's label. Sampling music from another rapper and completely taking their lyrics and song title while releasing it to the public are two completely different things.

But isn't that the same as putting new words over an old image, or old words over a new image? Francis Scott Key set the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner to an old English drinking club's anthem, yet every time it is played we don't call repost. It has also been recorded by many different artists. Warhol's soup cans were already done by Campbell's graphics department. All he really did was change the color. How many ways has Shakespeare been redone with changes to the language? Again I prefer originality but this is a meme site, and there we be many times when words will be attached to different images and vice-versa to see if it changes the impact the meme has. Essentially what you do with lyrics only on a much simpler basis. All the components you use in your music have been used before, you are only rearranging them to try to maximize the impact. I get the feeling we could go back and forth on this for a while. I have enjoyed the conversation but I think I will have to accept that we will not agree on the value of the "repost" comment. :)

Yeah, man. I have read your comments (obviously) and in retrospect, you are right. Yeah, what you have said here is true. I understand that the components of my music has been used before and I am just trying to maximize the impact of it by rearranging it in my own way. I will say this though, the picture I saw this meme on, was very similar to this one in a lot of ways, different in many, but still similar. But that being said, you still have spoken words of truth. However, Francis Scott Key did not set the lyrics to a Drinking Club's anthem. He wrote it as a poem when he was not allowed by the British when they told him that they were going to bomb an American base in the war of 1812 and then he woke up the next day and the flag was still waving despite the fort having been bombed the night prior, and then people widely accepted it as the National Anthem, and they sang it to the drinking club's song. But that is beside the point. I am just a very argumentative person. I have sunk to the level of the people that shouted repost on one of my memes and now I regret this.
