The White House Correspondents Dinner nearly had a circular firing squad, it's a wonder more cops didn't shoot each other

Arm Chair Quarterbacks suck. I am not trying to pick on the cops, but so many protocols were not being followed. I hope everyone here learned a lesson, it was only dumb luck that the agent shot had a vest shot instead of a head shot. Still can knock the wind out of you and leave a bruise. The guy kneeling while working on the second magnatron unit could have gotten killed if he stood up sooner. You can see Cole starting to lose his balance. If he hadn't this could have ended very badly. Cole never fired a shot

Here's how low the standards currently are for the secret service-
1) They lack the manpower. 500 agents are needed to fill all positions.

2) The secret service no longer show up to people's doorsteps to warn them that if they don't stop with the public death threats against the president, they will be arrested and charged with conspiracy to assassinate the president the next time they do it.

Over the years I had an opportunity to work with a number of former Presidential Detail Secret Service agents (both male and female) who did private security for clients I worked for. People who get up every morning and go to work with the job requirement that they are to put themselves between a bullet and the President are phenomenal. Just as you say, the standard has been lowered, a shortage of manpower certainly compounds the matter. Dignitary protection is only a part of their responsibility.
