lol honestly, no I didn't, getting settled in to the new place and starting a new job with a pregnant wife took 99% of my time, I think I checked in on it once near the tenth month when i got an offer on it. That time passes by so fast , you know that saying outta sight outta mind. IDK the details but she might have been outta state as well, that makes getting there 100x more trouble.

Yeah.. I just did a quick search and apparently, the laws were created to stop people from freezing in winter as many NYC landlords would start evictions in Dec/Jan to free up properties for the new tax year.. NOT KIDDING!
I used to be an Insurance auditor and it I know it is "mandatory' in all policies to ensure the homeowner completes regular inspections of ANY property they own on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. You could lose any chance of being reimbursed for losses if there is no regular maintenance schedule.
I still think she did the right thing.

Perhaps she was having it renovated.

I've seen houses here empty for years while they're gutted and totally renovated, even expanding the outside walls, turning them into oversized garish McMansions with a sliver of yard surrounding them. Sometimes I wonder why don't they just totally demolish them and start from scratch, as that's what effectively they're doing, only a bit at a time. Seems to be the usual trend now more than than not.
