For what is one man but an island? One man acting alone cannot accomplish anything, good or evil. Rather, it is the power that men exercise, or attempt to exercise, over others that creates opportunities, and dangers. In the case of Kanye West - a man who has already made his mark on pop/rap music history, who is already worth over a billion dollars, who by all accounts ought to be satisfied in life - has instead deliberately aligned himself with a thousand-plus year-old tradition of anti-Semitism: a conspiracy that has raped and murdered millions, that has sunk its tendrils into societies all over the globe, in a bid to amass even more power for himself. Mr. West has run for President once before and says he's running again. His ability to win is doubtful, but the toxicity that such a man with such a platform is capable of injecting into public life cannot be so easily washed away. First principles of #Yeophobia. | It seems that, too often, we as a society have allowed people who are weirdly talented at one specific thing (music, sports, the simple ability to command a camera's attention), and who have acquired a measure of fame through pursuit of those activities, to dictate our political agenda, or at least our 24-hour news cycles. But what qualifies Kanye West, exactly, to speak on literally any political subject? Perhaps we are due for a social movement to correct the errors of having allowed our reserves of attention and focus to be siphoned off by such know-nothings, grifters, and pied pipers.
