Actually there should be an English history month, Italian history month, Irish history month......................................................etc, etc, etc, if you want to be politically correct. All ethnicities that came here have different history.

Except they came here (the vast majority) at their own will....and even the Irish or other indentured servants (which numbers were small) had a viable exit plan after they worked off their debt. And then they were white. Which in itself was a leg up.

You really are one screwed up person. I'm "white" and was homeless for four years. I lived on the street eating condiments I stole from fast food restaurants. When I tried to apply for Welfare (that's what it was called back then) I was told by the "black" receptionist that I'm a "white, single, male and would never be approved". I applied anyway and was rejected. I received $88 per MONTH in food stamps. Eventually I got my GED then went to college. I was not allowed to apply for Grants or Scholarships that were reserved for "black" students. I eventually got a degree then began a normal life. On another note, I'm second generation American. My grandparents came here in the early 1900's and lived in the ghetto they were forced to be. I owe blacks or anyone else absolutely ZERO. We weren't here during the slave years and during segregation my family was too busy trying to improve than cause problems for someone else.

nijrob right now you are being the bigot. I'm sorry man I agree with you on some of the things, but now you're devaluing someone else, just because you don't agree with them. Please read over your last few statements and analyze exactly what you're saying. I was too raised in a poor white family, most of my ancestors moved to the U.S. between 1920 and 1950. I have no recorded Anglo-Saxon ancestors, yet I am still considered "white." Which in the U.S. actually debilitates the lower class. My mother and father worked hard 40 or more hours a week to raise me and my siblings in non-circumstantial conditions. They never received any help based on race alone. I live in California in a city that is 80% Hispanic. In school I was teased and even bullied for being "white." I don't hold it against the Hispanic races, most of my friends are Mexican. There's just shitty people out there. That's what you have to realize. It's not "white people's" fault that there is segregation in our country it's stupid people's fault.

So you admit it exists....ok....what's the problem?

Here is what I took out of his story (convenient and out of context like when many whites judge minorities):

I stole from fast food restaurants.
I applied for Welfare.
I received food stamps.
Eventually I got my GED (FOR FREE) then went to college.
I was allowed to apply for Grants or Scholarships that were reserved for "WHITE" students.

See? Doesn't seem as bad now.
reply
5 ups, 1 reply
The way you read his story is referred to as selective listening. You chose what you wanted to hear and filled in the rest with your own opinions. As for the Italian scholarships how does that benefit all "white" people? There are scholarships and grants for minorities based absently on heritage. And I think this is the point that "white people" want to make when they're not considered for these benefits.

I missed this one. This is a prime example of your complete ignorance and for lack of better terms. Just a f'n dumbass. My point is the programs are there to succeed, which I fully said were utilized. The Grants and Scholarships were open to EVERYONE. There were no generalized scholarships for anyone but blacks back then. Blacks had access to ALL but no one but blacks had access to theirs. People aren't complaining about blacks using the benefits to succeed they don't like when using the benefits becomes the career and whine if they can't have more. LMAO! Geesh, I'm done, I can't believe there are people like you that actually come up with this garbage. Your life is going to be difficult and you have no one to blame but yourself. LOL, f'n moron.

Leave it to you to discredit someone that's not black. I lived on relish, catsup, half/half, what I could find in the dumpsters and $88 a month in food stamps. People make life difficult just like I did by dropping out of school and getting into crime and drugs. You're just the typical racist black who wants a hand out instead of using the resources that are there and thinks if you're white you are lying about being poor. When I was on the street I hung around blacks, latinos, whites, etc. It doesn't matter on the street we are all looking to get a fix and an edge. You're just an ignorant jerk. I was lucky enough to use my brain to get out and not an excuse like blaming everyone else like you.

How do you suggest we ever move beyond that, or is that the great wall that will never be torn down. How many hundred years is enough? Slavery has been enacted on all races at some time in history or another. From what I can see there is only one group that cannot seem to rise above it, and that's in no small part because there is an industry that still has a vested interest in not allowing them to. I dare say that those who are here now, have way more advantage than they would have in the countries of their ancestors and have the ability here to become things like... i don't know... PRESIDENT?
reply

Not sure how you move "beyond" it but I am pretty sure debating if their lives matter or debating the validity of a "history month" or constantly and consistently devaluing their opinions probably isn't helping to move "beyond" it.

Why aren't they angry at their own people who enslaved them and sold them to another race? I think that would pis me off more to be sold by my own race. Slavery of any kind is horrible and gladly for us, is in the past. Why use it to divide people who had nothing to do with it? Why not commend the whites and blacks who helped to end slavery? You do know that the majority of people generally don't have much say about what goes on....just like today...how much say do we really have?

That's not even remotely the core message. It's supposed to be a peaceful protest, but some people let their emotions get the best of them. Do we judge all atheists by the actions of Dawkins? Do we judge all Christians by Westboro Baptist? Do we judge all Mormons by Mitt Romney? Do we judge all of Germany history by the Nazi movement? You can't overgeneralize a group and the core of their protest because a small group of idiots are acting stupid. It's unfair. Just think of what the real peaceful protesters are trying to do and how much this means to them.
reply

Dawkins and Romney never started riots, and even the WBC, as disgusting as they are, didn't get violent. It's a poor analogy.
reply

If you want violent examples, then I'll use the police. Do we judge all police by dirty, corrupt, and/or racist cops? The answer is still no, because those cops don't represent the true core of the police force. That's precisely my point.

Remember these words? "pigs in a blanket fry em like bacon" and "What do we want...dead cops...when do we want it...now." No analogy needed. Black lives matter however good intended lost all credibility with those chants and stood by and let it happen. Good luck defending the indefensible.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
It is "defensible", because like Jesus didn't intend for his followers to be absolute racist, sexist, misogynistic idiots, BLM didn't intend to be a violent protest. There are idiots out there for everyone. Do I think "pigs in a blanket fry em like bacon" is terrible and unresolving? Yes. However, I also know the origins and true ideology of the BLM movement, and I'm not going to judge it by idiots.
reply
3 ups
You still missed the point. The loss of credibility occurs when you stand back and don't condemn the bad actors, just like what is being done to Trump for not condemning the man that hit the protester.
reply
5 ups, 1 reply
BLM ignores the point that ALL LIVES MATTER and racism knows no color. And Cops "hunting down and arresting blacks" is ridiculous. You are implying cops just have an agenda to go after blacks ( a lot of cops are black). Perhaps it is the criminality of young blacks in certain areas that account for the arrests. Perhaps they get shot because they attack the officers.
reply
5 ups, 2 replies
Ugh. Not true. White people are beyond privileged in America (And most other countries as well). Their pride and narcissism prevents them from seeing the hurt and pain of other groups, especially ones that were and are continued to be taken advantage of.

Black Lives Matter is a protest for equality, because black people want to be treated the same as white people (Particularly). "All Lives Matter" is a mockery, because it implies that white people need equality too, which is beyond ignorant.

And am I implying that ALL cops have an agenda? Of course not. My uncle is a retired Lieutenant, one of my best friends is a detective, and I know numerous police officers from my hometown that are fantastic people. However, even among those friends, they know that there is a problem within the system. They are asked to racially profile, and that's part of their agenda, yes. Some people overabuse this, while other cops ignore it or apply it more professionally.

This is where the inequality is, and it is present is just about every major city in the US. You can accept the reality, or you can continue to believe in the fantasy that black people are treated exactly the same as white people in all areas of life.
reply
5 ups, 4 replies
How about giving us an example of that "white Privilege". You know when black people say that to a poor white person, it is nauseating. Just how long are you going to hurt over something that took place before you were born? Why are black people not hurt that their very own ancestors enslaved and sold them? Why are only white people the villain in that dark time in history? Why do some wish to continue to spread hate and teach only one slanted side of history? Would you like to be blamed for something your ancestor did? What if we arrest the entire family of a criminal today and make them pay for what their father, uncle, brother cousin did? Wouldn't that seem unfair today? How much more unfair is it to blame an entire race of people for what happened 200 years ago? Maybe if black people thought some about how white people feel today about being treated like the "white Devil", they might have a bit of empathy.

Before I was born?! Are you kidding? I've witnessed rednecks attacking black people first hand for simply being black FIRST HAND. My brother was beat up for dating a black girl while he was in high school. My father's dad disowned him, because he took in a homeless black man while in college and cared for him (A friend who is one of my father's best friends to this day). My mother's father has used more slurs than I can count to describe black people, and his stereotypes are over-the-top. One of my black teammates on my high school wrestling team was constantly picked on by our heavyweight my freshmen year. If you think racism is dead, you are insane. A Donald Trump rally should be a great indicator as to how racist white people still treat black people. Did you not see that suckerpunch at the Fayetteville rally? You'd think the police would handcuff the white guy who assaulted the black guy, but no. They slammed down and handcuffed the black guy who did nothing. That's a prime example of what I'm talking about.

We aren't talking about history here. We're talking about now. When I talk about white privilege, I'm talking about how I am able to go to a shop in SC as a white person, and the security guard wouldn't even pay attention to me. If a black person walked into the same place with the same clothes and same demeanor, that security guard will keep a solid eye on him. That is privilege.

White privilege is that they are also three times more likely to receive a donation as a homeless person than a black person. White privilege is constantly getting catered to first and better than black people at just about any restaurant in SC (My home state).

It's not that white people are the devil. We've just always have had it good. Black people simply want to be treated the same. THAT'S IT. It's really not that hard to comprehend.

Slavery in this country is what I was referring to before you were born. As far as the "white privilege" thing it is mostly a crock of shit. Racism on the other hand does still exist and it exists on both sides. Whites are beat up all the time for being white. White kids are bullied at schools with high number of blacks. The MSM just doesn't fairly report it when it is white people being attacked or discriminated against.. Whites are turned down for jobs , promotions, welfare assistance, scholarships, enrollment in colleges all due to affirmative action. Perhaps some of it is in your heads. I know racism exists, but I see more racism against whites than any other race in this day.
reply
2 ups, 2 replies
Yes it exists on both sides in some ways, but it doesnt help to keep denying the #blacklivesmatter movement and keep trying to shove it away. Let them defend themselves. They have that right. I personally think black on white violence or discrimination is a REACTION to the shit white people have been doing for too long. Its a punishment. No its not fair, but its not right if white people dont even TRY to understand! All they do when black people protest is shove it away and pretend its not an issue instead of LISTENING to the other veiwpoint. If they can sit in church for three f**kin hours listening to fairy tales that they pick and choose morals from, they cantake two f**kin minutes to understand why the black lives matter movement is important!!

Or you can just keep fanning the flames of racism and perpetuate the vicious cycle. All white people aren't racist, all white people didn't even come from slave owning families, yet all white people are blamed. It is clear who the REAL racists are. There are still white and black and mixed race and other race people who will fight against ALL true racism. No one has still answered why you don't blame your own ancestors, too.

I get that not all whites are bad, but the black lives matter movement is not just about racism but also political change. Like stopping police brutality. And taking down white priviledge. There is SOLID PROOF of white priviledge everywhere. White people usually dont see it because.... theyre white! Why is a security guard more likely to follow a black guy around? Why is a white guy from prison more likely to get a job than a black dude? U can deny the favortism all you want, but its there. The more denial, the more ignorance.
reply
3 ups, 1 reply
blm is a political and racist group backed by hate groups such as black panthers. They are anti-authority, anti-white, anti-police. They use bullying tactics to spread their "message". And If a security guard is more likely to follow a black guy around, maybe he is conditioned by statistics that do lean toward blacks as more inclined to criminality. I mean if you can't accept statistics as "solid proof" what can you trust? Maybe spending more time and energy encourage youth and helping them to stay on the right track would be more beneficial then chanting "pigs in a blanket, fry 'em up like bacon", this sends the total wrong message and I think leads more young people into doing stupid things (like attacking cops) that may get them killed. So, if black lives matter, why incite these young impressionable people into doing things like "burn this b**ch down". ?
3 ups
yaaaaaaaaaaaaah i doubt what you're saying has solid evidence. blm is NOT racist. I'm with bernie with this and most other things. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/14/1432193/-Asked-whether-Black-Lives-Matter-or-All-Lives-Matter-Bernie-Sanders-absolutely-nailed-the-answer. The black panthers is different from blm. yea some blm people are a little more action sided, but they both state solid messages. I think institutionalized racism IS in fact a thing that MUST be brought down. People try to encourage the youth to stay the right track. There are already movements for that. Problem is, even if they do, there is FAVORITISM towards the majority, white population. A white guy can be JUST AS LIKELY to steal as a black guy. Why follow either when BOTH are customers? And there have literally been black people doing NOTHING wrong, and beaten by a cop. How the hell is this justifiable? If many white people WEREN'T racist, they'd just agree with the black lives matter movement and welcome it because its just defense. But because they don't like movements for people defending themselves ho aren't white, they come up with the ridiculous alllivesmatter bullshit. There is WAY deeper history in blm. People who state alm don't actually LOOK DEEP ENOUGH into blm to understand it. They instead ASSUME that its racist. They ASSUME its anti police. Have they ever TALKED to a blm protestor like bernie has??? Bernie f**kin brought a blm protester ON STAGE and LISTENED to his side. AND stated reasons why HE AGREED. HE. F**KIN. LISTENED. AND HE AINT EVEN BLACK! He is f**kin jewish for f**ks sake! You have any idea how few blacks are jewish?? Much more, you know how many diet racist jews there are??? yet he STILL listened to the blm protestor. WHY?? BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH HUMANS THEREFORE BOTH HAVE A SIDE AND ARE MATURE ENOUGH TO LISTEN TO EACH OTHER!!

NICE you couldn't reply to me what this proves other than there are idiot white people when I asked you before so you go put it in another comment stream as some great proof of white privilege? I'll ask you again what is the point here?

If white people were the deciders of everything, I doubt everything under the sun would be called racist. It is really a shame that that would is miss-used so much because there is truly something called racism. But, it is like crying wolf. It sort of loses its meaning when it is used for reasons when it is obvious that racism wasn't the issue. My uncle always told me, you will find almost anything if that is what you are looking for.

Nah- I was raised a republican and lived my way through it. And now see the truth.

I also make WAY too much money to be a democrat but morally I can't be republican or on the right.

Again, proving your ignorance. Blaming Republicans for racism. Democrats were the original conservative party that wanted slavery. Did you even go to school?

Yeah one of my degrees is in history. The democrats and republican ideologies and platforms essentially flipped in the 1920s-1930s Especially the Southern Democrats. They held on to the name pretty long, but essentially were Republicans in Democrats clothing the longest.

That meme explains it very well, if they would only get it. I don't know how to judge other group's experiences very well. They just may be more expert on that & not be "racist," "stupid," or "whiners." Why is that so hard to understand?

Somehow people's minds get on a track (both sides) & they make false assumptions & by golly they stick with them! Is human nature. It is interesting to read these discussions, though.

If you're stupid to believe in 'White Privilege' then I bet you're stupid enough to listen to the opposing side
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
Hahaha. The opposing side? If you don't think I know who Ben Shapiro is, you are fooling yourself. He's basically a mini-Trump. His insensitive views are always displayed as soon as he says things like, "I don't give a damn about your emotions." That's the sign of a poor leader, and it is precisely why someone like Trump is just as bad.

Also, if you go back and watch the video, they do a great pan of the room at around 4:02, and that room is ALL WHITE. Basically, he's ridiculing in a comfortable, non-judgmental environment. If he were to give the same speech at a school in Harlem, he would have been protested, argued with, and demanded to leave.

Ben Shapiro knows nothing of what it's like to be not-white, and that's precisely the problem. His lack of empathy right off the bad (You know, the "not giving a damn" part) is why no minority wants to listen to his or Trump's garbage. They only care about themselves (Which Ben Shapiro said very plainly in the video you provided), and they care about advancing their own pocket.

So... what exactly was I supposed to learn from this exhausting 20-minute, hate-filled video?
reply

Yes caring about facts and not about special snowflake feelings is a sign of a poor leader. And what is this "Not-white" bullshit? Do you mean to tell me a white person has never had money problems? Or is it more along the lines of all non-white people have exactly the same experiences?

Forget it, Jason. They don't get it. This meme was obviously made under the false premise that "Racism Is Dead."

Racism, I assuredly say, is NOT dead. It only takes a brief glance at statistics and surveys to prove it. YES, all lives matter. But they don't understand what "black lives matter" is about.
reply

Racism is certainly not dead. It exists on BOTH sides.

You're right, but I still felt the need to say something. I hate the pretentious act of "All Lives Matter" being the greater of the two, but "All Lives Matter" is basically just saying that everything is fine so let's live in peace, which is ridiculous.

Like you said, the "All Lives Matter" mentality implies that racism is dead and black people are treated perfectly equal to whites. "Black Lives Matter" is a protest to be treated correctly, equally, and lovingly by the media, the authority, and the country in general. Trust me, as a white person, I understand. Being from South Carolina, I have seen the worst kinds of hate, and I never want to be like that.
reply
7 ups, 1 reply
Black lives matter lost it's credibility when they hit the streets chanting "What do we want...dead cops... when do we want it...now" and "pigs in a blanket fry them like bacon". Now you can begin to tell me how racist all cops are and defend the indefensible.

Ugh. You are still missing the point entirely. Do you think the Christian church is meant to do good? Well, they're supposed to, but guess what? There are quite a few bad eggs within the religion, and I don't need to give you a history lesson of what Christians have done "in the name of Christ" in America's short history. But at the Christian message's core, they are supposed to be peaceful, loving, caring, and kind. They are asked to take care of orphans and widows specifically, and they are even taught to love their enemies. Do some people in the religion communicate this? I personally think so. There are some great Christians out there representing the religion right, but there are also a great deal of Christians out there misrepresenting the religion and giving the good people a bad name.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Black Lives Matter is a good movement that is being handled very poorly by a select group of people. At it's core, it's meant to be a peaceful protest to bring attention to inequality. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that racial stereotype is normal in police investigation and interrogation, and that's only one issue that the movement is trying to fight against. Have people screwed up in the movement? Of course, but so have people in every good movement.
reply
6 ups, 1 reply
Sorry, I saw thousands marching and doing that chant which is not a select few. Thousands marched and joined in on that chant the same weekend a cop was killed. You don't even give the police the same amount of validation that you give that group. Please tell though (I am willing to listen) a couple of examples of positive things black lives matter has done. Protests are not an accomplishment.
reply
3 ups, 2 replies
To think I don't give the "police the same amount of validation" is ignorant and such a bold statement from you with zero evidence. My uncle is a retired Lieutenant, one of my best friends is a detective, and I know many police officers from my hometown that I have the utmost respect for, but even my friend who is a detective won't lie about the racial profiling within the department. If racial equality was a real thing, then racial profiling would be eliminated. And just like the Black Lives Matter group, cops are both clean and dirty, and they can't be judged by just the dirty cops.

And you say that protests aren't an accomplishment, but that's exactly how Martin Luther King Jr and Gandhi made major changes, by simply protesting. Sure, the BLM movement has some wild people that aren't representing the group correctly, but we can't judge the movement by these people. BLM was founded in 2013 by a black gay couple and a Nigerian-American woman, and they truly wanted equality for blacks, whether they be natural Americans, immigrants, homosexual, or whatever else. Their dream is equality, and they are trying their best.

"And just like the Black Lives Matter group, cops are both clean and dirty, and they can't be judged by just the dirty cops." Had that been a part of the first statement instead of just "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that racial stereotype is normal in police investigation and interrogation" I would not have made the leap. I can only see what you are willing to show. I don't disagree with what some of the people in or founded the group stand for. I disagreed with what they were showing at the very onset of the group (following Ferguson I believe unless my timeline was incorrect). Where I see Christians condemn the actions of westboro baptist (myself included) I did not see so-called black leaders do the same when the protests called for rioting and killing cops. This is where it all lost credibility with many including myself. I have no problem with promoting fairness and equality. I just don't think the name depicts that.

Where are the "peaceful" BLM people speaking out against the others that are making a so called mockery of the "real" BLM? You want to be taken seriously? Prove it by disavowing the riots, criminal activity and violent behavior. In other words show people you have a brain instead of brawn which is exactly what non-blacks expect from them.

I REALLY think a lot of people who are good Christians miss the point. I know & have clearly seen that to be black & innocent is worse than being white & innocent. We know about "the talk" responsible black parents give their children about being EXTRA careful with the police. It's not that "all lives matter" in concept isn't great. Of course it is!
reply

Of course "All Lives Matter" is true, but like I said, it clearly misses the point of Black Lives Matter. It's just about the imbalance in treatment.
reply

Oh? You mean the imbalance in treatment which isn't acknowledged by people who think they can judge the motivations of black people without having personally experienced inequality? So they assume it's not legit?

Not everywhere is SC
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Yeah. Not everywhere, like... umm... oh, nevermind. I've seen it everywhere. From Myrtle Beach to Charleston to Conway and Aynor. From Florence to Lexington to Rock Hill and Greenville. Anderson to Simpsonville to Loris and Sumter. And don't forget the worst places like Hilton Head, Beaufort, Mt Pleasant, and Columbia.

If you don't think SC is a cesspool of racism, then you are one of the racists. I'm sorry to tell you. I lived in multiple cities in the state across 25 years before moving overseas for work, and it was unbelievable the amount of times I had to argue with someone over some racist crap they were doing. Both whites and blacks are racist, young and old are racists, and as crazy as it sounds, even dogs can be racist.

SC was the state that started the Civil War, and they were the last to give up. Don't tell me that fight still doesn't exist deep down in the state, because again, I've seen it.

As an entry level GC, I get to work along side a lot of less than deserable characters. This one black guy was mad that my team was getting more hours and treated better. We were doing the same workload but getting it done much faster. When they went to send him home the second day and keep us. He started screaming that black lives matter, and I replied, "White lives matter more".
