Bro, there are haters everywhere. You got to set the example for them, otherwise they are just gonna go "Look at this dude, he isn't any nicer than me, why should I listen to him?"
Case in point: I met a very angry liberal in a youtube comment who was very adamant about global warming. I responded to him calmly and friendly, while every time, he responded with hate and spite. When I confronted him about this, he denied it, of course, but he has not replied since. Because he knows he's wrong.
