Key Growth Facts (2010–2020 Data)
• Islam: Grew by 347 million people to reach roughly 2.0 billion people (making up 25.6% of the global population).
• Christianity: Grew by 122 million people to reach roughly 2.3 billion people. However, Christianity’s overall percentage share of the global population decreased slightly by 1.8% because its growth rate lagged behind the total global population increase.
Why Islam is Growing Faster
• Higher Fertility Rates: Muslim women have a higher average fertility rate globally (2.9 children per woman) compared to non-Muslims (2.2 children per woman).
• Younger Age Structure: Islam has a younger median age (24 years old) compared to Christianity and other non-Muslim populations, meaning a larger portion of its demographic is in childbearing years.
• Religious Switching Impact: Global religious conversion (people switching faiths) has a negligible net impact on the growth of Islam. Conversely, Christianity experiences a net loss of adherents through people disaffiliating or switching to become religiously unaffiliated ("nones"), particularly in Europe and North America.
Christianity is loosing big time, perhaps the best example is Spain which was a Christian nation and now they are an Atheist nation. But this has to happen as it is written in the Holy Bible. We are now experiencing the birth pains.
