For more than a decade, Roger Foley has been trapped inside London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario, Canada โ not because he's too sick to leave, but because the government won't fund the home care that would let him live outside its walls. ๐ ๐ธ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ญ๐ช๐ท๐ฆ, he has said, again and again, even as the hospital keeps offering him a way out that isn't recovery.
In May 2025, staff removed the specialized amber lighting Foley needs for severe photosensitivity. Once it was gone, they judged oral feeding unsafe โ and he ๐ก๐๐ฌ๐ง'๐ญ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ง ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐๐. It's his own brother sounding the alarm now. The same institution licensed to save lives has instead been presenting Roger with a menu: $1,800-a-day hospital care, inadequate home care, or medical assistance in dyโng.
Foley refused all three. He sued the hospital in 2018 over the coerced MAID offer โ and the courts struck the case down. Nearly a decade later, ๐ง๐จ ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ ๐ก๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ง๐๐ for withholding the food, water, and home-care funding a disabled man says he needs just to survive.
