Yes, it's a good message. But how many kids seeing this will believe that message? Many kids seeing this will want to say, "That's easy for them to say. They don't know MY parents."
There are many reasons why kids don't try very hard to please their parents. You've touched on one. Here are some others.
"They don't want me to have any fun."
"They work me to death."
"They use everyhing I say against me."
"They're impossible to please and I'm not wasting any more time trying."
"They overprotect me."
"I don't have time for them, I have too many other things going on in my life."
"They said they wish I was never born."
