As I have told you a gazillion times before, liberal and conservative were the opposite of what they have become since the Progressive era. The Progressives kidnapped the term liberal because that was more favorable with the American people. A liberal prior to the Progressive era was one who believed in the preservation and promotion of individual liberty. They believed that mankind was basically good and did not need a strong repressive government. Can you say that about liberals today? Nope. Not in the slightest. In fact if you tell a liberal today that you are for individual liberty and a small limited government they will call you a fascist or nazi which is just plain bizarre especially when liberals today want exactly what the nazis and fascists wanted. They just do not know that because they have been lied to.

It doesn't matter where the term left wing came from seeing that everything was reversed.

Indeed. Conservatives would be the loyalists.

And the difference isn't that much from today, other than the king.

Basically Conservatives are drawn to authoritarians with big heavy centralized governments which seek to control every aspect of our lives, down to what clothes we wear.

Whether we're talking about a monarchy or a dictatorship, the main difference is that a dictator wasn't born into the role, they appointed themselves it, whereas a monarchy is (usually) an inherited one.

In Britain conservatives favour keeping the monarchy. Liberals want to abolish it.

The obvious assumption would be that conservatives are merely traditionalists, trying to preserve the finer aspects of the past and the world they knew growing up. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in the old neighborhood forever?

But the fact is it's a specific mindset geared to a very narrow worldview subject to as little interference from anything that might disrupt their myopic vision. Interference is disruption, and that requires adjustment, which takes thinking, and thinking in turn takes effort. And brains. Small minded people would rather not cope with the strain.

Authoritarian types offer structure and order requiring no effort from the drones other than their admiration and dedication. Thinking is not necessary, only going along with the crowd is.

So while appealing on the surface, conservatives have always contributed not much more than stagnation and decay.

Bottom line is, nobody is stopping them from building a log cabin from scratch and living out their days in Appalachia with the other old timey folks. But they like cute gadgets too and other delightful accoutrements offered by modern society, so they'd rather live somewhere with flushing toilets and electrical appliances but some trees in the yard so they can pretend they're still living at great grandpappy's place with nobody sporting pink Mohicans and nose rings at the cash register at the Walmart.
