*le sigh*
I askd him something, not some account that has been dormant for months.
I asked him about Heaven and Hell in the Torah.
There's no such thing.
Heck, there's no Hell in the New Testament either...
You're actually partially correct but didn't even know it. What we refer to as Hell is referred to in the New Testament actually an assortment of everything from a hole in the ground (as in a grave), to Gehenna to, yup, you guessed it, Sheol - except it's Sheol as I described it, not some eternal burning fire pit.
Gehenna is where the burning lake imagery came from, being a valley utilized as a dump where garbage, leftover offal and bones from animals, and assorted dead criminals and other unwanted people were were dumped to burn in a fire that just kept going for years as people dumped more and more into it. Of course it's not burning anymore, it hasn't for thousands of years. In fact it's a bucolic suburban development now, you can actually look it up. I had posted pictures of it years ago but I really can't be arsed to do it right now.
The beliefs of the Hebrews were physical. That's the beauty of it. You (men, that is) live in a righteous manner, commit no sins, pay homage to Yahweh, and your fields will be productive, your wife will be faithful, your children will be healthy and will make it to adulthood as well as help you on the farm.
That was the Covenant, that was the contract, that was the deal. That was the reward, right there in front of you where you can live it. You don't have to suffer your whole life crossing your fingers that there's a lovely little exclusive clubhouse in the clouds waiting for you to rectify all the wrongs that you had to endure...
Hope this clarifies things.
