It has been a minute but the last time I was in the deep south I saw mixed couples everywhere, cheering on the teams and not a hint of an issue even though different tables were on opposing sides, alcohol was flowing freely. I didn't stay for the end of the game, a ate a burger and left so I don't know if they drove home drunk but everyone having a good time.

Also, there was a big chunk of the party, including Abraham Lincoln, that had no problem with maintaining slavery as long as it didn't spread to the Western Territories.

The Civil Rights Movement not only was mainly Democrat, it helped push Southerners into changing their party affiliation to Dixiecrat then Republican when that didn't work out. That's why it was a Democratic Party that had registration drives as well as partook in marches while the Republicans focused on joining the KKK.

The South is not any more racist than the North, East or West. They have been desegregated for some time and the Cajuns are mixed with white and black in the same family.
