Addendum: rather than relying on survey results, take a proof-is-in-the-voting approach; Tennessee is a deeeeeep Red state... however, a recent special election in what is typically a "safe district" for GOP politicians showed a drastic shift in voter choice toward the Dem. candidate.
Here's the thing: polls are unreliable. Why? Because they 1) sample a limited quantity of the public, 2) one must sign up to be surveyed and 3) survey companies can be biased along the lines of supressing unfavorable results and/or deliberately targeting specific groups with the aim of achieving favorable results.
