Trump has the ability to release the files whenever he wants. He doesn't need an act of Congress to force him to do it.

Maybe think about that.

A lot of the info is under a judge's seal. A president can't just blindly overturn that. Sure the legislative branch can do it via a bill to change the rules/law. . .but is that a precedence we want?

The best way to do this is to write a bill that states any info a judge puts under a judge's seal that covers up known or unpunished criminal activity shall be immediately unsealed.

Even that has its long term risks but it's better than the legislative branch having the ability to willy-nilly unseal any info they want whenever they want regardless of the cost.

This may come as a surprise to you, but the DoJ has a long history of releasing information and redacting specific parts that are relevant to an ongoing investigation.

so... it's very possible to release the files yet withhold specific investigation related information.

This is the same administration that openly violates the constitution by threatening lawyers and broadcasters for practicing their freedom of speech. Of course they will cover up any mention of the presidents sex crimes against children before releasing the documents
