Actually they were pardoned not because of their guilt or innocence, but instead the failure of the justice department and courts to respect their constitutional rights, they were detained indefinitely many without being charged with a crime, evidence was destroyed, witnesses were tampered with, they released evidence to the public to taint the jury pool.
