Um . . . it is the nature of defenses that any defense can eventually be overwhelmed via saturated style and unending attacks of sufficient force. That's long established military science. The notion that therefore it's somehow better to have no defenses in place is suicidal thinking.
A strong and generally effective defense gives you both time and options for other things . . . such as pounding the opposition in turn so that they surrender rather than become nothing more than a wasteland that gently glows at night from radiation.
