"owe more than they should"
Huh? Didn't they read the terms before signing on the dotted line? It's their own damn fault.
I guess not, which means somebody else should pay off that loan for them, am I right?
And btw, since the govt apparently is (or was...) in the business of giving out money, despite what Jasmine Crockett thinks, why stop there? Why don't we just pay off everyone's credit card debts while we're at it? Business loans? Hell yeah, pay off those, too! Woohoo!!!
If someone could produce the gun that was held to their heads, forcing them to take out the student loans, then maybe people would be able to find some sympathy.
But nobody did that. These are no different conceptually than any other loan that an individual takes out, in their name, which they sign on the line with their signature, promising to pay back.
There are MORE than enough ways to attend college without student loans. Oh, but they wanted to attend the nice out of state school for whatever reason... didn't want to go to the in state school. News flash, it's you that earns the money, not your degree. Be worth hiring and promoting (or better yet, start your own business) and it won't matter which school handed you a degree.
So, it's like anything else. Don't buy it if you can't afford it, PERIOD.
And of course the downside, when idiots like Biden try to get involved (aka nothing more than blatant vote-buying) is that the debt is transferred from the person responsible, to people who have no moral or legal obligation to pay it back. That means we, the taxpayers.
I work with someone who worked their way through school; no student loans. She bought a home before turning 30. And we're not talking inexpensive, bc this is the SF bay area, with some of the highest housing costs in the country.
When someone like that, or parents who have worked their asses off their entire lives to pay for their kids educations so they can graduate debt free, can do it without student loans, why should they, or I, or you, or anyone assume the obligation to pay back any student loan? And it's worse when a klown like Biden just jams it down our throats for political purposes.
Some people don't want or need to go to college. Why should they be forced to pay back someone else's student loan?
Yeah, I get it. College is expensive. So fix the problem. But don't steal my money to make some rich libs' kids lives easier because they can't get a job with their Art History degree. smdh...
