Tariffs are a cost of doing business, like materials and labor. Any extra cost of business is ultimately borne by customers who CHOOSE to purchase from that business.
If the added cost males a product's price point less desirable, consumers may either opt not to buy the product at all, or seek alternatives, such as domestically produced items.

Dude. You are talking to people who think everything should be "free". They don't understand basic economics.

In a free market tariffs and taxes are identical. They have the same negative effect on the economy. If America imposes a tariff on another country, like China, then American pay the tariffs in the cost of goods imported from China. The US Government is the only one who benefits from this arrangement.

When Trump was campaigning it came out that he was going to eliminate the income tax. That would be excellent because we still the option of buying American goods instead of imported. But now he is changing from that. So I don't know what will happen. If we end up keeping this diabolical tax scheme that was first imposed on the American people in 1913 and add tariffs the economy will definitely suffer.

I think Trump understands this and I don't know what his plans are but he definitely needs to lower taxes if he is going to impose tariffs.

the ultimate burden of these tariffs generally falls upon consumers in each country. Therefore:

Yes, just as Americans pay for U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods through higher prices, Canadians would bear the cost of high Canadian tariffs on American goods through increased retail prices.

Are Canadians ever mad about that?

Canada is silly nation that has a net zero emissions target of 2050, so eliminating trade within the automotive sector between borders will impact Canadian economy greatly.

Canada will never build factories to manufacture.

Right. Goods made in the States will cost 200% MORE now. Which will send the prices way up. Making the Canadian consumer seek out cheaper alternatives.

So, in conclusion, Trump not only raised taxes on the American consumer, he also raised them on the Canadian consumer.
