At the same time, the state and local governments failed to take proper steps to reduce fire hazards. Over 100 LAFD firetrucks are in operable due to needing maintenance that is not available because of budget cuts. The state cut $150 million from the budget earmarked for fire prevention in forests. The 117 million gallon Sant Ynez reservoir in Pacific Palisades had been dry for 11 months, five months before State Farm canceled policies in Pacific Palisades.

The insurance companies saw the writing on the wall.

In an intelligent world the government would issue a statement that there will be no more assistance of any kind for citizens, companies or insurers who put themselves in front of a the inevitable yearly forest fire

Everyone would pack up and leave, there would no fatalities, no destruction of property, no rescue missions, no rebuild process...
