It is used as a slush fund for dumb shit.
Let people and their families be responsible for their own "social" security.
If you saved your money in a lousy certificate of deposit or 401k you would equal, or according to some experts, far surpass what you would draw from The SS...and as an added bonus - you can pass on the account to your heirs.
