If Santa gave everyone a million dollars every year, the rent would go up that much because land is unavoidable. As long as taxation is on wealth creation instead of land ownership, land can be held as a collectible for profit. And that means it will cost us, the users, everything we can afford.
Capitalism is the opposite of what the "laissez faire" economists were advocating (land value tax). It's the property ladder, neo-feudalism, a national plantation.
