They were exactly like the Democrats today. They told Galileo to refuse to believe his own observations that the Sun actually revolves around the Earth.

That’s not exactly what happened but ok.

He was told to deny Copernican Heliocentrism that placed the Sun at the center of the Solar System not the Earth as the Catholics told him. The forced him to deny his real observations. Where was I wrong?

He wrote a book that made Catholicism looked bad during the Protestant reformation. The pope sanctioned the the book, but back away from it after reading it.

But the story of them making him recant his findings is also a story I learned in the 9th grade. That's a very simplified version of it sure. But it's still exactly like the Dems are doing to us these days. Deny what you actually observed.

Yes…but I just know the background of the story and it’s kinda fascinating and I think you should know it too

In reality he featured a pope in his book and depicted him as an idiot. Most people at the time already knew the earth was round.

His people accepted immigrants from Germany who were trying to escape Justice after WW2 like the man pictured here. Maybe that’s where he gets the idea we need to accept these criminals.

Eichmann. They need him. Just like we got our Nazi scientists.

This gonna change Republicans trying to force the Bible in public schools then? Probably not

I mean, I am religious, but I'd prefer separation of church and state

Is there a problem with Bibles in schools? It is certainly better than pornographic books explaining all of the different ways to have sex. Ya, know... the books liberals are forcing into schools.

Did you know that the Bible was a standard part of school learning from George Washington until the 1940's? Classes were taught on the teachings of Jesus. Thomas Jefferson compiled selections from the King James Bible into a book and required all entering freshmen in Congress to read that book. Jefferson also set up Christian church services to be held in Congress every Sunday for Congressmen who could not make it back to their home to attend their own church.

Do you know where the phrase "a separation of church and state" came from? Who is the church and who is the state? Which group is being separated from which? The church is the people. The people have a wall that separates the government from controlling their lives. THAT is the wall of separation that Thomas Jefferson first mentioned in a private letter to a group of Baptists in Danbury Connecticut.

The letter was entered into 2 Supreme Court cases (that I am aware of). It was pushed aside in a case against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when an anti-polygamy law was being contested in the courts. SCOTUS upheld the law and because of that the LDS Church abandoned the practice.

The second time it was used was in 1947 in Everson v Board of Education. The case was about the funding of school busses who bussed children to private religious schools. SCOTUS held that public finding of busses for private schools was still in the best interest of the nation. Justice Black stated that the wall must be kept very high to keep the government from interfering in the private lives of the people. But that is not the ruling the left wanted so they begin to act as if the ruling was the exact opposite. The even had laws created claiming to be based on that ruling.

That is when they changed the definition of what Jefferson and Justice Black meant. There is no keeping the Church or the individual in bondage to the government.

So today people in Americans think that separating church from state is an American ideal. It never was. The people have the right to meet together wherever the can to worship God. Church services can even be held in government facilities. The more you know.... the more you realize how utterly screwed up the left is.

To clarify, I'm not saying all Republicans. I'm talking about the ones in office. I clearly see people here saying they're not religious

I don’t have a problem with students bringing the Bible or teachers bringing the Bible to school. I don’t have a problem with students bringing any religious books to school But teachers should be teaching kid to be critical thinkers and not just repeat their ridiculous ideology about race and gender
0 ups, 3mo
Yeah, I definitely agree with that. If you want your kids to be taught religion by teachers, there's always private schools. I was in Catholic school when I was a kid myself. Public schools are for students of any ideology, so either teach them all or teach none at all. And yes, bringing religious books I'm definitely all for. At least the students are reading something that debatably isn't too inappropriate, aside from some weird verses in it
