Because if someone is desperate enough to steal from you, while you're home, then they're probably desperate enough to kill you. So, if you go out there, there's a strong chance you're going to die.

Everything on my property that is mine. The threat is to the invader, the criminal takes the risk. Being a successful home owner doesn't make me a victim.
