You know what…have an upvote.
It really is ridiculous that pragmatic vehicles like that truck are illegal but the cybertruck is perfectly legal here but no where else and a restored wW2 military jeep is still technically street legal.

Japanese products are heavily subsidized for export for sales in America.
That pickup costs a helluva lot more in Japan.

The government of Vietnam.
Who do you think?

well I tried looking up some info on your claim and found nothing, so I wanted some clarification to narrow down my search parameters. I find your claim highly dubious, how about you provide some links to back it up.

That Japan subsidizes Japanese production? You want a link for that? Really?

yes

I've wasted even more of my time searching for these mysterious subsidies the Japanese government pays to auto makers for export to the US, subsidies so big it is cheaper to export, than reimport and sell vehicles than to just sell them from the factory, as you have claimed. Once again, where did you get this information?

All governments subsidize exports. That's a given.

As for Japan and them shops, that's going back to the mid 1980s when they were the biggest foreign buyers of American real estate (remember Rockefeller Center?) and were the world's 2nd biggest economy just thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to topppling the US for the #1 spot and all the smart suburbanites were taking Japanese in high school because that was the future of the world economy (sound familiar?).

Since then, their economy has shrunken, they've had a long term recession, the Yen is even weaker, and their vying for the #1 spot is long forgotten, so the info on those stores might be a bit outdated.

Yeah probably but still not an excuse for not allowing it to compete with trucks in America.
Given cyber truck.

Maybe having a line of more fuel efficient but smaller trucks would change public opinion on these monstrosities currently on the road.

Excuses are irrelevant, what counts is the money filling pockets.
Members of Congress are allowed to get $250 a day (or is it $450?) from lobbyists, and they don't have to declare it for taxes. $250 a day vs fair, logical, beneficial to Americans.... hmmm, wonder which way that dilemma would unfold,,,

They'll sell in India, on the continent of Africa, and in Mexico and South America, and All Islands around the Planet.
And, considering GDP of those nations, it might be Equitable to do so and keep 'em out of the US Market.

Can you buy a HiLux; or Passenger Vans by Toyota or Nissan ?
Hell no. Lap Belts don't meet current USA Safety Standards, yet meet old US standards

They sell them elsewhere though in droves...

How I feel about this depends on what regulations it doesn't meet.
If it isn't meeting standards for emissions or fuel efficiency, I can see that.
Or if it doesn't have the correct placement/number of headlights or signal lights required to be street legal in the U.S.
Or if it doesn't pass collision tests.
It might be as simple as a lack of airbags (I don't actually favor airbag requirement, because they actually present new dangers in circumstances that would otherwise be safe)

I know it only has 2 point seatbelt. That's definitely a factor. Don't care about the eco crap, global warming is a lie lol. Nothing that couldn't be easily moved. It's a work truck. Literally for farms and factories.

Something like 300 million of the 400 million USA citizens live East of the Mississippi River.
The US Steel industry exhaust and air pollution was creating acid rain across Millions of People,
eating granite headstones.

The death of the USA steel industry, and the rise of Steel and plastics dirty transition from raw natural resources being a task now greatly accomplished in East Asia only dumps the acid rain over the Pacific Ocean, where there is considerably less human inhabitants.

Yes, people in Taiwan/Formosa ride their scooters with masks on, then have to wipe the soot or plastics or whatever is drifting in the air off their helmet vision visors, daily.... So, the point is that it is preferable for east coast USA habitation, to have this type of manufacturing tasks completed in East Asia, then bring the 2nd stage product like well engineered Engines, Trannys, and Pellet Plastics to the USA for assembly and extrusion in viable products.

*Gotta give a Nod to "Reagan", for thinking that all the way through by himself on his own...

The United Auto Workers union owns the Democrat Party.
They prefer vehicles with Chinese parts assembled entirely, or mostly, in Mexico and open borders and Fentynl and illegal aliens, because the cartels pay cash when they buy politicians.
They made the Rust Belt a wasteland of third world jihadists.
Why do politicians become millionaires on $200,000 per year salaries?

No, Toyota products are heavily subsidized for export sales. They sell so cheaply in America, that there are actually shops in Japan that sell Japanese products that were exported to America then imported back into Japan. It's literally cheaper to buy Japanese products sent overseas then sent back then than to buy the same exact products that never left Japanese shores. You're basic cheap Toyota whatever that everybody buys lately is actually a luxury automobile.

Oh, not sure what it's like in recent years with the rise of China and whatnot, but for decades Japan was second only to Israel in terms of biggest foreign lobbyists in the USA. How do you think they got that doofus Ronald Reagan to make his Made in America campaign center around opening Toyota factories in America? Did that ever make sense to you? Made in America, by Japan?
