Here's the difference. Jesus canceled the sin debt out of an ultimate act of love and sacrifice using His own Body and Life. The people who want to cancel student debt are trying to lock in votes and the only way they can pay of this debt is with other people's money.

Really the whole system needs to be overhauled. Student loans should be treated as normal loans and all loans should cap out at 100% fees and interest of original principal.
