From the graph, you can see that both Union and Confederate memorials peaked around 1910. My guess is that the Civil War generation was dying out at that time.

Of course. Let's destroy all American culture to make way for the socialist/communist/Marxist/globalist revolution. We must edit history so that it fits our narrative. People with a national identity are harder to control.

Seditious racist confedies is NOT American culture. Civil War, remember? USA vs slave owning traitors.

We study history to learn from it. Why can't ignorant Leftists learn from 20th-century history how socialism was such a horrible failure?

Pretty obvious a cetain ilk isn't learning when all they see is consolation prizes for losing their slavery campaign.

Addressing the OP, why do Leftists say Confederate statues were erected as a reaction to the Civil Rights Movement when that is factually not true? Another bizarre myth I hear is that the Democratic and Republican Parties "switched." Where does this misinformation come from?

The OP is a Leftist? Ask him why he said that then.

'Bout 3ya, there was this CentralNYGuy... who kept asking me something about what would today's Leftists say to George Washington or vice versa if they could regarding a particular topic, and I said I don't know, and then reiterated my initial comment. He repeated this for a couple of days. My comment? It was 100% in total agreement with his OP meme. Yet he persisted in trying to argue against me. For agreeing with him.

Same with that coin. Stone Mountain. 1925. A popular classic. I own one. I collect coins. Image went right past him, as did my point.

The effort to create a Confederate monument on Stone Mountain began in the 1910s. Yet, the monument was only completed in 1972. Spanning multiple efforts across more than 50 years, the carving’s history is full of twists and turns. https://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/monument/

Yeah, and?

The Mint sold that half dollar for $1.00. The profits went to help fund the monument.
0 ups, 1y
So the Federal government helped fund it. Why do you think the Federal government funded a Confederate memorial? Think about that while you spin on your hampster wheel.

Your "logic" escapes me. Please explain. What has this commemorative coin got to do with anything? US Mint issued it.

The winners get to write history, not the losers.

How about we write history as accurately as possible so we can learn from it?
1 up, 1y
We can study it....in every state but Florida.

I agree! But erecting monuments to Confederate generals who were traitors to the American Constitution is not the way to honor Southern American history. How about replacing the Confederate monuments with statues honoring the Revolutionary War heroes from the South, or a WWII hero from the South like Audie Murphy?

Revolutionary War heroes? But they were all traders to the crown.

What did they trade?

That's the view in Great Britain. I took a tour of Westminster Abbey in London and the guide pointed out the famous generals buried in the Abbey who were killed by the "American Rebels" in the American War of Independence.

The Confederates often referenced the American Revolution, comparing it to their struggle to create a new country. There was even a unit dressed in revolutionary war uniforms.

The winners didn’t have a problem with at the time.
Its only losers that advocate the erasure of history and culture.
