It's a republic. We hire lawyers to "represent the public" (republic). In a democracy , the majority rules, where as In a republic the representative doesn't always take into account the constituents as a majority if a neutral stance causes no harm. This insures individual rights over majority.
Besides , the democrats haven't been "democratic" in years. You can't have a democracy in favor of minorities lol. That's an oxymoron
