I believe that Jesus Christ is my Saviour. I never thought about his skin color.

That is probably a your problem.

Because skin, aka, flesh has nothing to do with it-
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Sort of resembles Colin Kaepernick. Weird, isn't it? Anyway, Our Lady of Guadeloupe is generally portrayed of being Brown Hispanic. In fact, most cultures usually get around to nativizing Mary and Jesus and the gang. So the concept has pretty much lost whatever shock value it was presumed to possess.

As a FYI, the same nativizing also happens with depictions of Buddha and Lao-tzu in certain areas of the world.

Nice hair. . .did that Jesus also have access to modern shampoo and/or modern bathtubs?

Speaking of idolatry...

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

What is it exactly that is "Graven" of an image of a human being created in God's own image?

What is it again, exactly that is "Graven" of an image of a human being created in God's own image?

Did you miss the phrase "or any likeness" or are you being intentionally obtuse?

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

So mankind is ON the earth, not a likeness of heaven above, nor in the earth beneath, nor the water under the earth, correct?

If so, even if mankind is a reflection of God (of the heaven above), or made from the clay and ashes of the earth beneath (God formed Adam out of the Clay, Genesis)
or 70% of each human is made of water that wells up from Springs under the earth; and this commandment expressly addresses "Graven", meaning of The Grave, as in dead, or a false animation of a living person...

...is it okay for you to take a Selfie photo with your SmartPhone, and Post it on Social Media?
If you are still alive, and it is an accurate depiction of you?
Asking for a friend.

So, we really didn't miss it, as we get it.
Just to verify,
To you, by "any likeness", one imagines all of the Visual Arts are a sin against the Commandment on Graven images and likeness, in your interpretation.
Renaissance paintings, the whole shebang.
All Video Games, Architectural Plans, Astronomy Photography., Television depicting ocean creatures in their natural habitat, Printed Poster Advertisements, Microbiology images of Phytoplankton, and Zooplankton, and for that matter Memes.
Repent!
Somebody better go tell the Science of Taxonomy within Botany and Zoology, and alert the Secular Humanists.
There's still time!
You are free to think that interpretation, and practice it in the USA.
We are also free to not concur with your human interpretation, yet be happy for you that you have one.

Just maybe the problem exemplified in Exodus, lies in going beyond appreciating the likeness of images for their occasionally accurate reflection of God, going beyond appreciating them, to the act of worshiping these images themselves, rather than giving to God what is His?

Just a thought.

Graven means carved here. Aside from the Iconoclasts, most Christian denominations don't care about the images thing -- that's more of a Jewish and Muslim prohibition.

Fun Fact:
Jesus is Jewish

obviously was

Graven meant images like Baal, Moloch, or one of the Egyptian pantheon gods. And the reason why Jews did not make graven images of YAWEH is because 'nobody has seen the Face of God'.

Then Jesus Christ came along as God in the Flesh.(My Father and I are one./Before Abraham was, I am. . .and yes that was Jesus saying He is on the same level as God because the pharisees wanted to stone Him on the spot for saying those words.) Anyway believers back then did in fact see the Face of God.

As for depicting Jesus as White, Black, Asian or whatever skin color that is not clearly from Jewish or Middle Eastern roots, it's not so much about Jesus being those things but rather the hope that Jesus loves a person regardless of whether they are White, Black, Asian or whatever skin color that is not clearly Middle Eastern roots.

Great question.
For some perspective,
The USA Democratic Republic is based upon the Ancient Roman Republic, which evolved out of
Roman Totalitarianism which existed during the time of Christ, and carried out His execution on behalf of the State. Yet, Pontius Pilate washed his hands of it, placing responsibility for his carrying it out on behalf of local religious sects whom saw Him as a threat.

Maybe that's one reason it is a political discussion?

Rome was taking a political stance by appeasing the locals they had conquered, through carrying out the execution.

He had broken no governmental laws of Rome, and therefore was being executed for allegedly breaking the spiritual laws and customs of a couple of fringe local religious sects. He belonged ethnically to the same religion by birth, and by practice, yet He had differing interpretations of their religious teachings and practice. His crime of healing a sick human being on the Sabbath day without a local license to practice medicine, likely would not be worthy of the Death Penalty today.
Politics.

Is that just for you?
Are you Euro, or just an Atheist fan of the John Lennon song, Imagine?
Do politics and "TELIGION" ever intersect?

As citizens of the USA, even members of each Branch of Gov't are free to practice their own religion, or not.
Understanding that concept is apparently hard for some.
It can be done, though.
