Rancorjoe's post is excellent! I would add that I think your meme, chedmacq, assumes that things will get back to "normal", where open discourse is encouraged and people don't hate each other based on their political viewpoints.
I am not willing to make that assumption based on the current situation. In other words, the freedom we have enjoyed up until a relatively short time ago, and the free processes that we have always had in America, which those on the far left now clearly want to suppress, are by no means guaranteed to return.
If they do, then you're spot on. If not, then we are fcuked as a nation, and our decline will continue and history will paint libtards as being great. One easy example of how we're fcuked is how we're financially screwing future generations, since the democrats have demonstrated they have no plans to ever stop spending more money than we have. Unchecked, it will continue until 100% of our "revenue" will be required just to service the debt. Nobody will loan us more money at that point unless they get some pretty serious collateral, such as the soul of our nation.
